Wondering how the system works. My girl gotten seat in DHS which is her 4th choice. Her o results 8 points (12-4). Her third choice is acjc and the cop is 8. Maybe wants to take in more students that took HCL? :?

Maybe acjc last COP is ie. 11-3 (8 points nett) or 10-2 (8 points nett)
So in terms of merit, raw score of 10 or 11 is better than 12 points

Please don’t accompany your kid to school reporting today. They are 16 years old. Not 6 years old. You must give them face and train them to be independent.

Probably miss by decimals at cop 8.

              No decimals for O levels

Quite likely its called partial 8 COP, so perhaps all the 10-2=8 would get in first over the 12-4=8 if Singaporean

Decimals only exist, under T-score (PSLE)

Under O-level (L1R5) and under new 2021 AL PSLE marking, we deal with whole numbers.

                    UBK Mum:

Without all JC/institutions increasing their full A level results, there is no way to determine the ranking, however, if you believe the results of HCI, RI and VJC produced by those 6 pointers and below, you must also assume or believe that NYJC’s A level results should be equal if not better than VJC. The reason is that all students are the end product of our education system, the deviation between these 6 pointers and below cannot be too large or there will be a problem, its either the system or the school. If NYJC take in gems and produce trash, I dont think it popularity will improve year after year, words will travels and students are not stupid. Its good to have competition and we should give credit when it is due.

                    Very true.
VJC Art Departments standard has dropped based on A level Results eg Humanities Subjects eg Eng Lit, History, CSE, Geo scored below Natuonal Distinction % A.
Words spread and popularity dropped for Art.

In the end, what comes to the table is the 'raw score' 😞
In spite of working hard in getting all bonus points, grades still rule the world 😞 😞

From the MOE website: \"Applicants are posted to a course based on merit according to their net aggregate scores (taking into account the various bonus points for which applicants are eligible for). Applicants with better net aggregate scores will be considered for admission first, subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected course. If there are no vacancies, the applicants will be considered for their next choice course.

In situations where there are two or more applicants with the same net aggregate score vying for the last place in a course, they will be posted based on their citizenship status in the order of Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and then International Students. If there is still a tie, for example between two Singapore Citizens with the same net aggregate score, the one with the better gross aggregate score will be posted to the course first. If there is still a tie between the two citizens with the same gross aggregate scores, posting to the course will be determined by a computerised ballot where each candidate is given an equal opportunity.\"

So bonus points still help up to a point, citizenship is considered. Bonus points are only disregarded when there is a need for a tie-breaker, and in the last resort, there will be a ballot. I guess if the student does meet the COP, it may be worth appealing, especially if there are other strong considerations (CCA etc) which are not one of the factors considered in JAE.
