There are many parents who are not so eng to post, and many more who find the discussions in ksp too 无聊 and don’t bother to post. They just sit there, read and laugh as some jokers posted. But now that they feel the bra check is a big issue that concerns them, so they voice out and post. That does not make them fake.
Maybe the word ‘traumatised’ used by one of the parent is a bit exaggerated. But we can’t deny that some girls maybe affected more than others in this case, even though they are not being inspected. Maybe the Sec1 girl is timid and her friends scare her and tease her that she maybe next? We are not the girl, we do not know how she feel and why she feels that way. Just like the Sec 4 girls, many were checked, but why only one cry? Maybe she is more shy and sensitive to touch and to people looking at her bra, while others are not. I know this case is overblown and I know many parents with girls in nygh that said their girls won’t mind, as the button is on the shoulder. But don’t forget that there are girls from more conservative family who mind.
Yes, I also agree that the girl maybe timid and introverted hence dare not say no to the teacher. What I was sharing here is my personal view, personal parenting style. Even if one breaks the rules, they should receive appropriate punishment. They can be booked. They can be made to stand under the hot sun in the parade square. They can be made to wash toilet or stay back. As long as it adheres to school rules, as long as it is appropriate, go ahead and punish them. I am all for schools to punish the students if they break the law. But if the check and punishments have crossed the line and made them feel uncomfortable, unsafe, they should say no. If my girls are introverted, I will keep repeating and reminding them they have to stand up for themselves and say no if they have to. Learning how to say no is even more important for timid and introverted girls than extroverted girls. Again, this is my personal parenting styles, you don’t have to agree with me. Similarly, some parents here seem to think that the school can do anything they want to their dd when they break the rules, so as they learnt a lesson. Again, this is your parenting style. There is no right or wrong and it is not for me or anyone to condemn you.
Clearly, the teacher has crossed the line, that is why she and the school apologised. I also understand it is not easy to be teachers these days and she does sound like a nice and caring teacher from the comments and reviews. I do feel for her, especially reading all the very nasty comments people said about her in all the fb comments. All fingers seem to point at her. I do hope the nanyang community, especially the parents and students can show her the support in this difficult time.
Kudos to the nygh girl who tirelessly fending off the school and teacher by patiently and maturely answering every comments and attacks made. At least she didn’t ask fb to check every IP addresses or block the site!
From the legal point of view, I understand that the school principal or Teacher can be sued by the parents of the affected girls (if they choose to pursue the matter) as the school has crossed the line. Rightfully, the person who approved of such bra-checking thing ought to leave this industry. Disgrace to the education industry..... -

The Principal of Nanyang Girls' High School has served the school since December 2017. She was previously at Singapore
Ministry of Education HQ working as (MOE)
Cluster Superintendent with Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE). As a Cluster Superintendent, she must be highly experienced to lead other principals.
Before heading to MOE HQ, she was at Yishun Town Secondary School, appointed as Principal at Yishun Town Secondary School from December 2010 to December 2014.
Prior to that, she was at Chung Cheng High School (Main), promoted as a Vice Principal in Chung Cheng High School (Main) from December 2008 to September 2010. She started out at Chung Cheng High School (Main) as the Head of Department (Aesthetics) for Chung Cheng High School (Main) from 2003 to 2008.
This incident has indeed swayed me against choosing NYGH but considering the background of the highly-educated principal, I will prefer to sit on the fence for the time being. -

Grounds has changed much since 2014. It will take time for the transition. This is perfectly normal. But note NYGH is a publicly high visibility top school, that's higher challenge for the P.Bochapmum3:

The incident happened, necessary action had been taken by school, school leader and teacher involved had apologized.
Everyone does make mistakes, nobody is perfect, we must learn to forgive and guide our children to do the same - let bygones be bygones (do think the bright sides of the teacher involved instead of focusing solely on her mistake).
At the same time, we may guide our children learn to resolve matters within school community whenever they have issues in school.
Students must know the consequences clearly if they wish to share their issues in school through social media instead of resolving the issues through school as such action may affect whole school community instead of only teacher/students/parents involved.
Parents can be positive role models for children in what they do and say.
仁爱与同理心are important values that we need to instill in our children.
We need to spare a thought for the school leader, teacher/parents/students involved as well as other parents/students of the school as no student/parent likes their school to be viewed negatively. -

No wonder that day my DD2 came home looking unhappy and mentioned that her classmates were upset that the Zaobao and ST articles on the incident as well as photo used were misleading. I didn’t pay much attention to her then as I was busy with spring cleaning.
DD2 told me that her classmates noticed that in the photo used by Zaobao, the student wasn’t wearing the actual NYGH uniform. The buttons for the NYGH uniform (for illustration) shouldn’t be right in front or at the collar!
Next, Straits Times reported , “However, the teacher allegedly undid the collar button and pulled out their bra strips during her checks”. Factually, it should be shoulder button (there are 2 buttons at the right hand side of the shoulder) and not collar buttons (which is below the neck) for the NY Hongzi uniform. By unbuttoning the shoulder button, the bra strap would be visible and there’s no need to pull out anything!
Straits Times did a direct translation of the original article in Chinese and did not bother to do basic facts checking.

Parents complain or criticize the school now but when the time come, they will still fight toe and nail to get in into NYGH, we cannot underestimate Singaporean's obsession with elite or top school.
