We are planning for a trip around Jul-August period. Anyone has any idea roughly what are the dates for each phase for P1 registration?

The dates are always in that July-August period. I suggest you skip your trip. Unless u’re willing to appoint a grandparent or trusted friend to handle the registration on your behalf.

This were the 2018 dates for your reference only.

The 2019 dates will not be released until May 2019 I think.

p1 registration is usually held around july to end aug every year. agree with zac's mom to skip the trip and settle this important matter to have peace of mind.

Could anyone kindly advise the strengths of individual primary schools at Clementi? Our BTO is within 1km from Nan Hua, Pei Tong, Clementi & Qifa primary schools.

I understand the Nan Hua is superb popular as it caters the GEP for the advance learners. Heard that it is very competitive. How about other three primary schools? Any comments?

Will apply during Phase 2C as they have rejected my PV last year 😓

                :thankyou:

We are planning for a trip around Oct - Nov period.

Understand that there will be registration or orientation around these 2 months?
Should I call the schools of my choice to enquire?

Orientation is usually in Nov/Dec. On top of that, some schools may have an “admin day” in October for parents to submit supporting paperwork etc.

Neither is compulsory. Just that if your child misses Orientation, you miss an opportunity for him/her to get to know the school compound, classmates, form teacher etc. before the actual first day of school (which could be highly stressful for a P1 child).

Yes, if you want to know the exact date of the Orientation, you can call the relevant school(s) and ask. It is either already in the school calendar but not revealed yet, or the school may only decide in very late June when they are planning the Semester 2 calendar.

Hello patents, we are non native chinese speakers. But prefer our son to take chinese as his MT language. My questions are:

1- does all primary schools offer foundation level MT languages? (In case he cant keep up to standard level)
2- if no, do i need to find a primary school which offers foundation level, just to be on the safer side?
3- does taking MT in foundation level affect his PSLE result?
4- any chance we can apply for opting out if MT language? ( our native language isnt offered in singapore. Therefore taking tamil/malay/chinese are all equal to us. Its an entire new language and we dont speak any one of those at home).
Appreciate your views/sharing experience on this…
                      Thanks in advance

                        Don't fret.

At Primary 1 entry level, no school in Singapore offer Foundation subject.
When your child reach Upper Primary 5 level, then schools will start to offer either (Foundation level or Higher ) Chinese, after end of Primary 4 year-end streaming.

                        from P1 to P4 :

                        a) if your child study in a SAP school, by default, all start Higher Chinese, from Primary 1.

here is an MOE list of SAP primary schools
                        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Assistance_Plan#SAP_Primary_Schools

                        b) if your child study in a Non-SAP school, by default, all start Standard Chinese, from Primary 1

                        c) P1 to P4 : there is NO Foundation Chinese, because only after the end of Primary 4 streaming, then Foundation Chinese may be offered, to certain weak pupils.

2- if No, do i need to find a primary school which offers foundation level, just to be on the safer side?
At Primary 1 entry, no primary school offer Foundation level subject.

At Primary 1 entry, schools either offer Higher Chinese (in SAP schools), or Standard Chinese (in Non-SAP) schools.

3- does taking MT in foundation level, affect his PSLE result?

MOE has her own unique way, of computing PSLE results, if a child take Foundation subject(s).

Under the new AL PSLE scoring system (which your child will undergo), not sure how MOE will compute AL score, for Foundation subject(s).

4- any chance we can apply for opting out if MT language? ( our native language isnt offered in singapore. Therefore taking tamil/malay/chinese are all equal to us. Its an entire new language and we dont speak any one of those at home).

Only MOE can approve, whether or not a child can opt out (exempted), of Mother Tongue.

You need to submit necessary, supporting documents as evidence from doctors medical report, from educational psychologists report, if want a child to opt out, example : a child faces learning difficulty (disability). You may read up more, under another thread here
