63% is still 6 out of 10. 65% would be 13 out of 20. Mathematically correct.

But this is not a math exam. Linguistically, nothing wrong because “close to” is a relative term and not an absolute like % or headcount.

H2 Maths: >70%
H2 Chemistry: >70%
H2 Physics: >70%
H2 Biology: >70%

It is better than RI since RI’s result for these subject is 70%.

Something don't seem right, with above data posted, for Nanyang Junior College, H2 (Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Bio) Maths and Sciences subjects. The figures posted, somehow don't seem to be reliable, like can't be trusted ? Maybe out of the 4 H2 subjects posted, perhaps one or two subjects could be > 70 %. But, doubt that all the 4 H2 subjects are > 70 %, each.

That’s why there’s no point saying which is better and which is worst. It’s just a marketing exercise for all the JCs apart from RI (easy to be transparent when you are head and shoulders above everyone else). Get a good marketer and you could probably sell a chicken off as a Phoenix.

6 out of 10 could be anything from 55% to 69%, although I suspect calling it almost 70% would be better if it’s > 61% (see DHS eg).

I must say DHS needs to improve on their marketing... If they want to sugar-coat the percentage to make it look nice, then don't put in the exact number as anyone can calculate the exact percentage from there... they are just inviting others to shoot them... :?[/quote]Agree.

Median UAS is the UAS at the 50th percentile and mean is the average UAS.

Based on historical data, is median UAS usually higher than mean UAS?

So RI mean UAS is 84.5.
NYJC median or mean UAS is 85.X?

You are right. median is usually higher than mean based on historical data. NYJC median is probably around 85 since they said 50% of their students attained more than 85 UAS. So, at 50 percentile, it stands right at 85.

NJC median UAS is 84.4. Mean should be lower than that, usually 1-3 points lower. these number is quite credible as NYJC cop in recent years is 7 while NJC is 8. So, njc attaining slightly lower result is about right.

I think likely the interpretation is from the NYJC P's youtube sharing. He said, \"For Maths and Sciences, more than seven out of ten of you scored distinctions\" (about 45s into the clip). But that sentence is so ambiguous. More than 7 out of 10 of the students scored distinctions for math and sciences, does it mean >70% of students scored at least 1 distinction in Math/Chem/Phy/Bio? H1 or H2? This is very different from saying that 70% of the students scored distinctions in each of the four H2 subjects....

This is very different from saying that 70% of the students scored distinctions in each of the four H2 subjects....[/quote]Among all the JC, I realised that RI provides the most comprehensive stats by getting down to the exact percentages ... so parents don't need to double-guess whether more than 4 out of 10 is 41% or 49%, about 5 out of 10 is 45% or 49%, 6 out of 10 is 55% or 69% etc. The sch has always been very transparent in its sharing.

Actually the 2 main stats are the mean and median UAS. All sch should at least share one, if not both of them. The rest of the stats are more or less peripheral.
