Just to share that having tuition should be a joint decision between both parents and child. One of my friends’ child top the school cohort in psle last year. He gave up tuition in P6 and practically revise on his own and still have time to go on YouTube. A very self-disciplined boy.

If your child needs tuition, by all means give to him but if he is stressed out because of additional tuition homework, then I would advise to drop the tuition as some schools are giving out a lot of homework.

Sleep is a precious commodity that should not be neglected. Sleep debt accumulated over time due to staying up late to revise or do extra work (exam papers) can cause the child to feel lethargic during PSLE exam.

Some schools will be conducting CA1 over the next 2 weeks.

Instead of re-posting the images, I'll just post the links of my previous sharing for CL Paper 2 and compre section across other threads (mostly on the PSLE 2018 one). Hope they'll come in handy for your child's preparation over the weekend! :rahrah:

          Dear Ms Chen Laoshi,
Thank you very much for the information. My girl struggle with direct speech to indirect speech in presenting compre answers. If only there is a a chinese assessment book on synthesis and transformation that would be wonderful. But sadly there isn't.
Would you have some tips on direct to indirect speech. Some children really struggle on this because their chinese is not smooth, and also because they are thinking hard on the answer to write everything perfectly, everything becomes difficult and make the answer not smooth flowing.
If you have some tips that would be much appreciated!

            Hi bluepencil,

            (I'm a Mr, not Ms. :p)
Don't worry, it's not only your DD. This is a common challenge esp. for kids who seldom converse in Mandarin and/or are not often in a Mandarin speaking environment. Besides, sometimes, we do not converse in 'proper' Chinese too, for example:

\"难道她不知道真相吗?” vs. 她不知道真相meh? -- it will probably be easier for them to understand (and transform) the latter than the former

Another challenge is when synthesis & transformation is performed in Compre section, it has to take into consideration the context of the passage. Take for example this excerpt from 2018 Nanhua CL CA1 Paper OE Compre.

            https://i.postimg.cc/Cxd6vyLJ/Photo-24-2-19-9-47-01-PM.jpg\">
In the question asking why the brothers did not eat the apples immediately, some kids actually just include 哥哥问奶奶“那您呢”/哥哥问奶奶那她呢 instead of explaining the concern that 奶奶 will not have any apple to eat.

Yes, unfortunately, there aren't books dedicated to this area and synthesis & transformation. However, we can always make use of the dialogues in Cloze Passages and Comprehension Passages to do such practice. This is definitely something I work on with the kids in preparation for Compre sections, not just solely doing Compre exercises. Otherwise, in most cases, it will be 治标不治本.

Therefore, whenever the child comes across direct speech in passages, get them to practice transforming them to reported speech (can be a mixture of verbal + written practice, depending on how heavy his/her workload is). Sometimes, for the less commonly spoken sentence structures or the more complicated ones (involving underlying message), we can do the transformation and use the opportunity to teach them instead (or give them 2 options, ask them to choose which is the correct one).
