Nan Hua Primary

Hello, quick sharing of Y2019 P1 principal’s talk (short session)…
- Y2018 P2s are moved en bloc to P3 (no streaming, no extra teachers from ministry as well so current teachers are toggling the extra classes)
- new HCL HOD also gave a presentation
etcetera…
Miscellaneous… - P4 GEP students: 80 (name lists outside General Office) -
So did the principal or subject heads brief on how are they going to gage the students with the removal of the tests from this year onwards?
-
Thanks for sharing. No wonder there are classes whom the teacher teaches both math and science for p6… manpower crunch?

Principal says that teachers will notify parents (via telephone...) whenever they notice that the child requires more attention. You may wanna hear from them personally during ptm?octbride:
Erm... nope... that's not what she means. My interpretation is that, P1&2 class size of 30 usually expands to 40 in P3, after some form of streaming. However, this year, the P3 size remains at 30, which means teachers will have additional classes to handle. You may wanna personally clarify your doubts during ptm?If you are referring to Ms Sam?, she is both experienced & effective. If she teaches your child, SC & MA will likely be A* (hearsay: if we consider only RI, RGS, NYGH, HCI, >15 in her class). No wonder there are classes whom the teacher teaches both math and science for p6. manpower crunch?

Hi, anyone knows how many parent volunteer (PV) in NHPS. Heard they got many PVs last year, not sure whether this is correct. In this case, 2b may also need to ballot this year. Thanks.

In HYLI query, I am also keen to learn about nan hua parent volunteer scheme and its entitlement to enroll for phase 2b. Appreciate if any parent can share about this in recent years. Thank you in advanced.

Hi, I’m a newbie here. My child, born in 2014 will either enter nanhua (phase 2a1) or Taonan (2b). We are living on the east coast and looking into commuting solutions.
A. By FY2021, nanhua will move back to Clementi campus? I drove by the Clementi campus and it was under renovation
B. Are there school buses from west coast to east coast ?
C. What are the take in rates for phase 2a1 compared to 2a2? Are we still able to get in at 2a2 >2km?
D. Taonan and nanhua are both very good Chinese schools, would any seniors here be able to comment on the culture ? After committing 150hours with Taonan, I didn’t quite like their culture but found the Nanhua culture (based on nanhua connect rather warm). Do teachers make parents outsource their kids to enrichment or do they gladly offer help to a child that is struggling ?
E. Would English, chinese, math primary 1 prep classes be necessary ?
F. What are their lunch or recess hours like ?
G. I saw lunch boxes offered to p1 in parents connect Facebook but wasn’t sure if this was only offered for orientation, do p1 buy their own food or lunch boxes are provided ?
Sorry for my many questions. Thank you in advance for your inputs? -
@magpies1 My boy is currently in Nanhua so I will like to let you know that for PV, try to offer something the school needs, it can be as simple as being a traffic controller in the mornings. It is not complicated. You just go the school website and I think they have a form for you to fill up. Just indicate you are willing to do anything. haha. Once you clock the required number of hours, you will qualify for phase 2b, however you will still need to stay within 1 km to stand a better chance. You can read all about these phases in the moe website.
@monajoba
The renovation is supposed to be completed by end 2019 and kids moved back in 2020, but looking at the rate of progress, I am not optimistic. You can always call up the school and ask them. In any case, the 1km is calculated based on the Clementi Jalan Lempeng address, so you should benchmark it there regardless if they move back or not.
I think the school buses goes everywhere, it just boils down to how much and what time they will pick up your child. If you live far away, they will pick you super early. The school bus is offered by Comfort delgro, so you might want to google their number and enquire with them.
Not sure about the phase 2as stage, you can refer to past statistics, I believe now they have to reserve places for phase 2c, so each phase has been cut down. but I have not heard of people not getting in at phase 2a.
Culture wise, its leaning towards chinese culture but still fairly neutral I think. For kids who are struggling, there are remedial lessons almost immediately in P1, they are pulled out from various classes into a rainbow class for them to catch up. Overall, I find that enrichment classes is still necessary because nowadays, there are so many official non-academic activities like excursions, nano classes, social classes. The actual teaching time is actually greatly reduced. but I think this happens in all the schools.
If your child has gone to a regular kindergarten then I dont think the prep class are necessary. But nanhua starts everyone on higher chinese, so you have to judge if your child’s chinese is good enough to start. Suggest you go to the bookstore and flip thru a P1 higher chinese textbook/assessment book and you will see the standard.
Recess hours are staggered, younger children goes first. But now in the temporary campus, P3 to P6 are in the am session and P1 and P2 are in the afternoon sessions. So the afternoon session is less crowded.
P1 recess food I think is only catered for 1 week, after that they have a buddy from a senior level for a few days to teach them how to buy food. Anyway kids picked up fast, so dont worry about that.
Hope all these helps.
