For science:
1. Open ended questions need to answer with keywords and theory. You cannot just give a straight forward answer. Eg. When asked why a metal spoon feels cold when touched but not a wooden spoon. Most kids will answer because metal is a good conductor of heat. But this answer is not good enough. You probably have to answer that metal is a better conductor of heat than wood hence it can conduct heat away from hand faster than the wood.
2. For MCQ, my strategy with my gals was to strike out the 2 obviously wrong choices first and then focus on the remaining 2 choices. You now have a 50% chance of getting it right as oppose to 25%. -

It is definitely possible. The child needs to have a scientific brain ie a scientific way of thinking the logical reasons and explaining them out in words (those very specific keywords that the syllabus uses and needs them to throw back at the script marker).
And I have recently asked a science psle marker ex-teacher before. I asked if it is really possible to write a good complete answer for open ended questions. To my surprise, he said \"Yes why not? In my experience of marking psle science exam papers, I have seen full marks for open ended before. I believe he meant the whole section of open ended, and not just one question with full marks.
Goodness, I wonder what those students are made up of... I think it is more than just understanding the concept. It is also about being able to word an answer complete and well. I think these students really have good memory? plus understanding the concept of course.
If you look at the whole Science syllabus, there is a summary diagram/flowchart at the back of every book. It shows you the entire map of what the science syllabus wants the kids to know. Very logical and simple. Just stick to those keywords and concepts, you won’t go wrong.
Science graduate here. Maybe that’s why I can see it all at one glance. So can my kid when I draw out the chart for him. -

Does MOE provide explanation for the alpha grades for PSLE? For school, A is a range from 75 to 90. For PSLE to get an A you have to get minimum of 75? Or the bell curve brings the range up or down?
DC of a close friend struggling with CL and scoring Ds. Considering that the DC is unlikely to put in much more effort due to behavioural issue, she feels DC can achieve a C during PSLE cos marked against peers. Is this true? -

91 and above is A*
(Bell curve is not involved)
Second, T-score is an average-weighted score used in PSLE and its basis is the bell curve. As to the shifting of bell curve, please go the below website to understand more.

third, DO NOT be upset by scoring D in Chinese, unless your child is getting all A* or A (Estimated t-score is 230). You do not need to worry about Chinese until all subject is 65 and The child NEED Chinese to score 65 in order to get t-score of 188.
(BTW if behavior problem is an issue, then its best to consult with school counselor about changes that could help the child study better.)
