Only bcoz DS was doing well & sch suppose was quite repetitive & was not effective for DS. But I agree if kids need more practices, sch supp classes shld keep kids on the toes.
I m not sure about the effectiveness of supp classes..dd says she loves it and ti me, aiya free tuition, I like.Estéema\" post_id=\"1905559\" time=\"1554725135\" user_id=\"66413:
One of the things I did was to formally request for exemption to supplemenatary classes that my child do not need & esp those my child alr performing very well alr. In P6 we only retain support classes for CL. In this way, my child hv only 2 afternoons in sch - CL & CCA.
-
my dd I dunno how also…asked her do a paper just now…so many wrongs…did all correction herself, say aiya this, this, this careless mistakes…I told her careless mistake is own problem hor…in sa1, scare die and if happened during psle she got to ren ming liao…hopefully she realised more of her weaknesses while doing past yr papers…and during supp classes?

p6s will start feeling the heat from June onwards as that is the long holiday to buck up and get intensive revision done. there are prelims not long after school reopens as well as psle oral in august.
@ marzipan CCA is only once a week, tho end 4-5pm. I don’t deny my kids fr their CCAs if they enjoy as it’s good for their devpt, besides academic input. P6 can get very stressful towards May-Jul & peak ard Aug/Sept. So I’m slways careful to give them balance.
it's hard to draw a fine line of balance during this period. after psle oral, the stress is intensified for the last push during September 1 week holiday before actual exams (for those not using DSA). -

Thanks Estéema! I'll consider sending in a formal request. But I'm also afraid it'll affect his DSA chances if I do that. Sigh...

If u feel tt yr child needs the extra brush up for CL, then I suggest u request formally to exempt yr child early. Language needs time to learn, kids need time to adjust to new environment & new tutor before they can start performing.
As it is, the sch isn't doing much for them. There will only be supp classes in the last wk of June for 3 days and even then for some subjects, only the weaker ones need to turn up. The \"sandwiched\" class will be left to survive on their own.
That's one of the reasons why I felt standing down in Aug is a little too late for those whose parents prefer to send their kids to attend additional classes outside of sch simply cos the sch isn't doing much for the final push. -
@ marzipan I don’t think it’ll affect yr DSA chances at this point in time. By the time u rest for CCA, it’ll be close to end Apr. Is yr child using his CCA to DSA? Usually the coaches will be around to scout for talents & the few mths to May/June will not make much diff as yr child wld hv proven track record. Not sure abt this year with the centralized system.

the kids are so tired after a long day in school. frankly supplementary lessons are just extension of curriculum.

I really don't see how effective they are. I took my kids out of supp so that they could come home for a bath, rest and have tuition in the evening...1-to-1.
as for past year exam papers, I hardly see any effectiveness if the teacher doesn't explain the mistakes. if the same questions are repeated, the students will only continue to make the same mistake. -

oh no..I asked dd last night if that is helpful, she says yes. I really hope it is useful. Maybe today I will ask her let me take a look of what taught. aiya, I din notice that the exam starts soon...I just update the exam schedule on my phone..my heart is beating fast now

pace yourself. from now to September, there are 5 months to go but you cannot afford to get burnt out.

if not using DSA, treat SA1 as a form of revision. schools usually set prelims tough as a form of 'wake up' call.
vitamin C is important. take care of yourself. -

Janet, u are right, my kid is beginning to feel the burnt out effect, right now. Stress level is high, because left only 3 week ... sa1 (labour day week 1 may that week start), and so much haven't revised yet ... sian

For those planning (intend, targeting) to dsa, we need to work hard, show good p6 sa1 (mid-year) results. Otherwise, end up showing lousy results, to the interviwers.
Frankly, those supp classes are not effective
