if you like stories about naughty little kids, try Dorothy Edwards \"My Naughty Little Sister\". About an older sister's perspective on her naughty little sister's ways about. For some strange reason, DS1 enjoys the stories (although I have 2 sons).


\"Nicholas\" by Rene Goscinny (same guy who did Asterix & Obelix) is fantastic read. :love: About a little boy and his life in school and at home. Very funny cos the perspective is from that of a little boy who doesn't always know what he's doing wrong. And the stories are in chapters (ie one chapter one story) so it makes for easy light reading. I liked it so much that I went ahead to buy the whole set from amazon.

Am reading Moomins series by Tove Jansson - library brought in a new set so I borrowed all 4 titles. Writer is Finnish and this was written in 1950s. Am in the midst of the first book so still feeling my way around but DS1 enjoys reading it. Some idea on the characters from link below:

heh heh. Yesterday introduced Nicholas to DS1. At first he very resist cos he saw a lot of words, but I told him that stories in chapter, so he don't have to finish the whole book. End up he was chuckling after the first chapter and told me he enjoyed the story.

Did you borrow from library or purchase?

I noticed the book at Borders Parkway cos of it's unique cover (it's a cloth like hardcover) and that time Borders had a good coupon offer. Subsequently I ordered off amazon and got some friends to carry back for me.

And for some of those books, I borrowed from library also cos couldn't wait to read - but still buy in the end. :love:

ah…nicholas…love him and his gang. love the cartoons too. got the book in shanghai in mandarin.


another one is "玛法达的世界 - 娃娃看天下". it is about a 6 years old argentine girl (mafalda) with her own political views of the world. great for adults but a bit too "cheem" for kids.

That series comes very very highly recommended. I love the way things are seen from a small boy's eyes and everyone ends up fighting and making up.

A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh is also very good. Total 2 books - the originals I mean. Stories also in chapters.

Oh... i have also got the original Winnie the Pooh, in a set of 4 books from amazon. I read a few pages of the book and found it so classic... hee.. too boring for me.

Yup, I got the whole collection. Unfortunately, one book that I ordered from Amazon had a missing Nicholas...there is a lobang where the picture should have been. But I'm taking it as my special edition.

There is no box set (unfortunately), and it all comes in hardcovers (aka pricier). But I would say it's an extremely fun read that you can do again and again.

Please note, (and I have to go back and check). There are 2 titles wherein the stories are the same. I think it's Nicholas on Holiday and ??. A bit buey song cos the stories are pretty much similiar.

Anyway, noted that the books are pretty available in library. So can go and try - like then buy.

Although I would broadly say Nicholas would appeal to boys and parents more. Then again, my son (who loves animal kaiser) also enjoys my naughty little sister books (about a big sister and her naughty little sis). So if your child likes to read, just try lah. :idea:

I love Nicholas! Was introduced to its Chinese translation when I was in secondary school - found it so funny! I now have both Nicholas on Vacation and Nicholas in Trouble, but haven't found time for DD to read them yet. Was hoping to buy the first two books of the series from Borders recently, but got to know about the sale too late!

We have 2 of the Nicholas books - I don't remember which, and am not at home to find out currently. He did ask me for more but I totally forgot about it till I read this thread :oops: . Then he got sidetracked.


Yes am interested to know which are the repeats so I don't get them :).
