For my ds, we went with a music school for his piano and he is now grade 5… but for theory, we decided to choose a private teacher who had an accelerated program and was able to help him accomplish grade 1 to 5 in 6 months. Now I’m wondering if I should pull my son out of the music school and look for a private piano teacher… would it be faster? any feedback is appreciated

Private teachers are of course not bound by rules and regulations of a music school and able to skip mandatory exams specified by the school. So theoretically, as long your son is hardworking, he would be able to progress faster.

But a factor you need to consider is that your son is already grade 5 and it is significantly much harder to correct any technical problems or bad habits at this point, so changing teacher may not necessarily result in better progress or playing.
