Yes, I also feel that the teachers & staff are very hardworking - for one, they write so much of their own materials+lecture notes.

I am so touched and comforted that yesterday Parents’ Seminar was so well organised. Teachers are so hardworking and committed to work hand in hand with the children. Even more surprised that the Principal is so open to suggestion. Within less a day, show the Principal the Parents Gateway apps and immediately agreed to endorse using it. More importantly, the school prioritise student emotional well being and resilience before others.
This NJC Principal and Teacher and the school culture are totally different from my other twin’s school.
I have a twins and both go to a different school. The other is a christian school.
So I can attest the DIFFERENCE. -
Yes, Mr Ang seems like a nice and humble principal. I like how he emphasize on service/charity (good values as important as academic, holistic education). I was also very surprised when my Daughter commented that the principal was very very nice and friendly during the DSA interview last year and this really helped my girl to feel less nervous. My Daughter and I have a good first impression of our principal.
I would also like to compliment Mr Jeffrey Tan on his constant updates and reminders via WhatsApp. It’s really useful, especially for first time Sec 1 parents. He also replies messages very fast. Thank you! -

I am also a JH1 parent and I am so glad that NJ is very open and forthcoming with sharing information with parents.
They explained their approach to focus on the emotional well being, social skills, resilience, etc. rather than just academics during the formative years, as our kids transition through adolescence to adulthood in a complex world.
NJ may not have the best physical environment in terms of facilities but it has an inclusive & nurturing environment with both genders, students of all races and background.
:thankyou: NJ Management and Teachers for keeping us well informed.
:thankyou: OGLs, my child and his friends had a memorable and fun orientation last week ! -

I'm glad that the new NJ parents and their JH1 dc share the same positive views about the school, the principal and the teachers. My gal chose NJ in P6 because she liked how the P, the teachers, and the students were so nice, nurturing, and encouraging. And indeed, it has been such experience for her JH years. In my eyes, she has grown into a resilient girl with a positive mindset and treats others with respect and civility (even my hubby and parents are impressed with her change). Welcome to NJC :rahrah:

Class of 2018 – GCE A-Level Results
The class of 2018 has done well. About 1 in 2 scored at least 3 H2 distinctions. About 1 in 2 scored distinctions in H3. More than 35% scored University Admission Points (UAS) of 87.5 and the median is 84.4 UAS. Congratulations.
Our deepest thanks to our staff, parents, School Advisory Committee and alumni. Your dedication to NJCians is very much appreciated.
To all NJCians – the next phase of your life begins. Choose where you would wish to study and your tertiary course wisely. For NJCians who might not have performed as well as you have hoped, do not be discouraged. Your A-level results do not determine how well you do in life.
Always live out NJC’s motto “Service with Honour” and live your life to be of service to others.
Thank You.

Hello NJC parents,
With 2019 DSA around the corner, I am doing research on potential schools for my DD.
The glowing reviews of NJ in this thread has moved it up our list of preferred schools,
nevertheless, most comments are from the perspectives of parents.
During my research, I came across this Quora post that made several eye opening remarks.
The quora post seems to be from an ex-NJ student and I therefore consider the points seriously.
https://www.quora.com/What-is-your-review-of-National-Junior-College/answers/84672190
Could any kind parent shed light on any truths of this post to allay my concerns?
1) Any idea on whom this \"nasty figure\" in the boarding programme is, whether he\\she is still ard? (perhaps you may have heard from your DC?)
2) Any of you could attest to the truths of the teachers smoking, publicly shaming students etc?
3) Any feedback from your DC about the current principal?
My humble opinion is that the staff culture would make or break the success of my child.
Your kind input will go a long way towards helping us make the right decision. -

I asked my DD about her opinion. To answer your questions, this is her response (she was sitting beside me while telling me what to write, in consultation from her friend through WA....):
1) She said the person in question is just an old lady in the boarding school, tends to \"lecture\" students for a longer-time-than desired, maybe due to her age, the students found her naggy and strict? But the other boarding staff are quite nice.
2) My DD said she hasn't seen any teachers smoking or publicly shaming students, etc. in her many years in NJ
3) As for the current P, she felt that he is a bit boring (speak slowly and a lot of pauses in between), maybe he doesn't know how to engage the younger generation...? I'm not sure if it is an issue with the current P, or that youngsters in general don't like Ps/teachers who talk too much....LOL.... She thinks that one of the level heads is much better in this aspect
For example, when students are to be dismissed from assembly...
Level Head: You can go.
Principal: I know it is very hot.... so I will dismiss you soon .... but I repeat my main point again .... which is very important, .... very significant to your student lives and your future, ... it is very relevant. And so always remember this, .... it is very important....
On a more serious note, she said the atmosphere in the school is pretty chill and encouraging, and you can't find much elitism in the school. There is also a greater diversity of students from various background (including many who are under financial assistance) compared to many other IP schools. One of her JAE friends said it was easy to integrate into the school, and students feel comfortable in discussing more controversial and deeper topics. The school also provides a lot of opportunities for (H3) research students.
Maybe you and your DD would like to visit the school during open house if you haven't, observe and interact with the teachers, P, and students, see if your DD feels comfortable with the school, and decide if the school is a good fit for her? Hope this helps! All the best to your DD DSA and PSLE! :rahrah:
