Long time never come in here..
勿忘培华的孩子是特选的。

& great irony to see the above..
I never forgot Pei hwa 是特选学校..。
似乎是学校或新任校长本身忘得一干二净
With the new direction from MOE,only P4&p6 has mid year exam..
I was shocked to discover that with less exam papers to set & mark(much lesser work load..)
Yet the p4s will not have oral exam & listening compre for mid year(not sure abt p6..)..
My job allowed me to be able to check on a few schools,& i am saddened to find out that those i checked all have oral & listening for p4s..& they are neighbourhood schools..
& 1 of them still have mid yr exams for p3-6!
Am disappointed & worried..
Complacency usually lead to downfall..& with many good teachers esp upp pri, transferred out..Sigh! &
even if parents want to do our part to help our kids,1 major grouse i have is that the exam compos are not given back after exams,& marks are not revealed either..we are clueless on whether tuitions are helping the kid in their compos,& do not know how to help a child..it's left to our \"guess\" but no way to \"check\"..(so maths method of \"guess & check\" can't be applied
)
Oral & listening compre marks not revealed also..the feedback forms are seriously useless for us to gauge the kids weaknesses in these 3 components..the school can take a backseat, but should let parents & tutors have a look esp on the compo to see how else we can help a child(& i am talking abt the weaker ones..)
(NB: the number of compos written for class work also reduced compare to my gal's time..& yet teachers can say we can refer to compos done in class to gauge a child's standard..& as if she does not know that work done for homework, usually vastly different from what is done in exam)
I can only comfort myself that i am glad that I did not waste my time to PV to let kids enter Pei hwa(hubby was an old boy so it was our natural choice..), if not, i would be more :stupid: :stompfeet: :slapshead:
Sorry for the ranting..& appreciate no flaming from any die-hard supporters..
Thanks!! -

Dear Skymincrafter,
PM u thru KSP & also emailed u but no reply…maybe u did not receive coz of technical glitch…?
Anyways, just want to say, I am aware that there are other schools who do not give back exam compos,
BUT i also have a list of schools who give back, including my elder girl’s school,
which i appreciate a lot, as i am able to see certain OBVIOUS weaknesses in her exam compos both chinese & english(though i am not so meticulous until i scrutinise to things like grammar mistakes etc), eg. i can see that she is very long-winded and the development of the story is not good/smooth/logical etc…
& the compos done in tuition or school may not show up such flaws etc…
She took a few exams to correct this flaw in her compos…& i was glad when i saw the gradual improvement…
Come on…how many times we heard of kids quite well-prepared for exams eg maths, but still did below expectations?
normal work done can be perfect, but during exam, with the pressure & time-constraint, a child may not be able to handle as well as normal days…
& the crux is, why some schools give back & some do not?? I think this is not fair… Those who do not give back, are depriving their students learning opportunities over the years…esp nowadays, for this year, for our class, within half a year, only 1 composition is done for school work!!
Those who do not go for tuitions, their parents only have 1 miserable composition to gauge how are their kids handling…esp the new syllabus for composition…
& whenever i ask for a valid reason, none of the teachers can give me a satisfactory reason, most just brush me off & say other schools also don’t give back…but i retorted & told them the list of schools which give back, they just reply "oh! is it? we don’t lor…it has been like that…" Worst, there was 1 teacher who mentioned that part of the reason is coz some parents will go back to teachers & argue for more marks!!so for the sake of avoiding handling such parents which are the minority,u choose to sacrifice the learning oppotunities of the majority innocent kids?
my point is, being educators, they do not question a practice which does not benefit the students’ learning at all!! & cannot give me ONE GOOD valid reason for not giving back(I am not asking for 10 valid reasons…just ONE…)
As an educator, I am really appalled…& disappointed…
I think our education system is a flop…kids been taught to accept without questioning…questioning is not encouraged…
SAD…coz i can see such no-questioning-allowed practices in other areas (macro)as well…with this breeding culture of YES-men, how to bring s’pore to greater heights…
no wonder Monica has to do what she had done, to wake the relevant authorities up!!!??? sigh! -

Sky minecrafter,
No hurry:) take your time…

@cool_hi. Currently, we study under Teacher Tessa, she may be the exact tutor you are looking for? She joins ~the same time as J.
I've attended J's class for make-up once, seems like a strict tutor. But, surprisingly, no extra notes on the SA revision topics. Cos, if the pictures or topics are not broken down & analysed, how...right?
For TT, we've to annotate every Ppp, Qsp, memorise vocab-clauses, plug plot gaps... We had never studied for enrichment mini-tests, but TT sends me very detailed steps (regularly) on how to score full marks for (I think it's) content & if my child's mini-test grade drops, I'll be chastised for not guiding her sufficiently....
TT doesn't give a lot of work but we have to spend quality time digesting the marked drafts. Parents don't need to check in with her, cos once she feels there's room for improvements, she'll be hounding you with the precise steps!
On the other hand, I've to admit that I'm the thick-skin kind - when there is a change in tutor, & the new/replacement does not give me confidence that he/she understands the national exam requirements, I'll change class.
P.S. I called & got the list of tutors already lah my dear! -
Just an update(wanted to post earlier but need to find time):
I am pleasantly surprised & extremely glad & relieved that this year’s mid year exam composition scripts(both English and CHinese) were returned to parents to look through & keep, with grades written on scripts(until last year end exam, the marks were not written on scripts when returned to kids in class to look through & then collected back, parents only get a feedback form which many parents do not find them informative enough).
This great leap in the change of policy is exuberant & celebratory!!
The parents in our class chat group were all glad to be able to see their children’s exam compo scripts, for the FIRST TIME, FINALLY…
SEEING IS BELIEVING!!
of course some of us were shocked to see what we saw, BUT the comfort is that, we still have some time to do what we can to help our kids improve…
Imagine if we ONLY get to see their exam compo for the 1st time after they take their psle prelim,(as our school traditionally only give back exam compo scripts taken at p6 prelim, from what i have checked with parents…)
& I sincerely hope that ALL parents can respect and trust the marking of the teachers and DO NOT go back to teachers to beg for marks or argue & demand for higher marks & make things/situations difficult for the teachers to deal with.
Even if a child failed their compo, there is NO POINT in getting 1 or 2 marks more, just to pass.
We should appreciate school’s willingness to make this change in policy and
The focus should be to look through their compos and see which areas are they weak in and work with them to improve bit by bit…
Just as an example, the feedback forms & comments which i used to get on my child’s compo, always make me wonder how good or how bad are the compos…
when i finally got to see the compos this time, though the Chinese compo marks looked rather decent,
but when i read it, straightaway, i noticed that his sentence structures were really bad(his tuition compos were much much better)…
But if i AGAIN only get to see the usual feedback form(without marks stated), I would not realise how bad are his sentence structures & lose the chance and time to do "repair work"…
Thus i would like to take this opportunity to THANK our Principal, Mrs Elsie Poey, the VPs and their team of HOD and teachers,
for making this positive bold change which will benefit all the students and parents!
& i hereby urge & hope all parents will respect the teachers’ marking & DO NOT argue about marks awarded & end up BURNING the BRIDGE(in case the school decide to u-turn back and stop giving back exam compo scripts…)
And if ever, any unreasonable parent make things difficult for teachers, I suggest that a warning to be given to the parent that the teachers’ marking is final and if the parent still insist on argueing on marks awarded,
teachers can warn the parent that if they continue their unreasonable demands/behaviour, their child will not get back their compos for all their subsequent exams.
This is to protect the mass majority students’ benefits, and their learning opportunities should not be sacrificed due to a few unreasonable parents. Hope the school can stay firm & handle this minority group of parents bravely:)
Ganbatte!
Thanks a LOT!! -
Hi all, for P5, are the students given their report books back since the WA only ended on Wednesday?
Any parents can advise? I could not attend the PTC and my boy is blur like sotong
Tried contacting the teacher but no reply from them as I guess they are busy with the PTC.
Thanks -
The FT said that report book will be returned during 1st week of school in July.

Any idea if the sch is still going to move? So renovations will be done inside the school while classes are on ?
