        Yes, long time ago, since the beginning of January Term 1 : Prelim (SA2) exam time-table already posted onto school website, inside school Calendar of events (Semester 1 and 2). Can check your school's Calendar


        Did your primary school given (issued) June holiday time-table, daily guided Topical PSLE revision timetable, for (Maths and Science) subjects ?
        No. Would have been useful to have that.

          My approach was quite contrarian last year. I did not buy any of the prelims papers and neither do I attempt to let my gals try. What I did was to exchange papers (only M and S) with a mummy with kids from a neighbourhood sch. I think this is to realistically see or feel what kind of questions might be expected for the larger masses. Not to sound offensive, sometimes I feel top sch papers esp Science are badly set and the answer scheme may not be correct therefore making a simple question look so complex and kids to overthink. I think last year PSLE the question about two material floating or sinking illustrates this point how a simple question can be thought out of context. Coincidentally my niece enrolled into a branded science enrichment program and I was appalled at the kind of science questions given. To me, the overstretching seems to make science more complicated than it should be at P6 level. So parents please be very careful when giving science papers or coaching science. We kept it simple and we’re thankful the gals did well in PSLE

              Just to share a close friend’s son’s PSLE results that I analysed last year.


              Mid year 2018
              4 subjects Total: 355
              0.72 x 355 = 255 (estimated T-score)

              Prelim 2018
              4 subjects Total: 376
              0.72 x 376 = 271 (estimated T-score)

              2018 PSLE T-score 271

              His 4 subjects were consistent. If any subject is weak, it can pull down overall T-score.

              Thus, if your dc is very weak in any particular subject, your dc has to put in a lot of effort in that subject.

              However I have another advice. I know someone who excels in English and Maths and doing well in Science but very weak in Chinese. The person improved tremendously for Chinese but overall for other 3 subjects drop. Thus, the moral of this story is not to focus too much on any particular subject but to give equal emphasis on all subjects for PSLE revision.

                    It's meaningless to get fixated over a fixed multiplier (neither scientific nor accurate). It's better to establish a range of results that the child are likely to achieve as that will take care of most of the other variables, such as difficulty of the papers, performance of the child on that day, etc. In essence, we are trying to establish the 95% confidence interval (for all the statistic people out there). It would be a more meaningful way of seeing things.

                    Based on a sampling of results, I think (thereabout) the lower limits - 0.7x and higher limits - 0.76x.
                    Thus, even based on mid-term, his estimated t-score will fall within a range of 248 to 270. Based on prelim, his estimated t-score is between 263 to 286.
                    If you overlap both data, I think his 'real' performance will fall between 263 to 270. The final result (271) shows that the mid-year was most likely an abnormality - could be due to the difficulty of the paper, the under performance of the student, the lack of preparation, etc.

                    TL;DR: we are trying to establish the t-score distribution of his t-score.

                      the results are very good and improved so much from SA1 to prelim…possible that prelim papers set more to psle std and that the boy’s school usually set tougher papers?

                        That is possible.

                        However, you won't know for sure unless a sample of the other pupils' results who sat in the same SA1 and prelim as him is also presented. If everyone's result shows a similar trend, then that's a likely conclusion (paper was much harder in SA1). If he's the odd one out, it could mean he had worked very hard, improved tremendously between SA1 and prelim, or it could also mean SA1 was an abnormality - and he was off-form on that day.
