I need some advice. My son in sec 3, during cca his mate wanted to prank him but slamming the big glass door with metal frame towards my son. At a result, my son had a deep cut fm forehead to the eye which resulted in 8 stitches. But his cca teacher don’t seem to be concerned about n told me it was pure accident.

I was very upset about it. Shouldn’t the boy parents be notified about his wrongdoing? Being playful, and my son suffered 8 stitches.

      What should I do?

Hi, you are too kind - I’d have cc-ed the Principal on the afternoon of the incident & keep my child away from the CCA.

You could now go to the Principal, say you would like to sit down & discuss the steps to be taken (by school-management+teachers, students, parents) going forward in order to prevent such an incident/accident from happening again in the institution. You would also like to emphasise that the child’s parents should be informed so that the child can learn from this unfortunate incident. If the school does not get back to you within a week (or does not speak to your child privately about your request), you should escalate further. We+the school have to take our children’s safety seriously. Hope this helps.

I emailed the Principal. He was not in town so he asked the VP to chk. So the teacher called me n asked me in detail what exactly happened. I asked him why the parents of that boy not informed. He said it must be very serious n grievances enough n the boy never repent then they will inform the parents.

I was speechless. Prank til other kid had stitches ,not serious n grievances enough…to be forgiving is good but by informing that boy parents is to let his parents teach their son n remember what to do or what not to do in future.

Teacher said “it must be very serious n grievances enough n the boy never repent then they will inform the parents.“

Is this the standard SOP for all secondary schools?? Or only this particular secondary school??

As far as I know, the SOP in primary schools is to inform both sides’ parents. For secondary school students, they are age 12-18 and still under guardianship/stewardship/responsibility of their parents. If I’m the parent of the child playing the “prank”, I would definitely want to be informed.

It makes me think twice about sending my kid to this school if it’s singing a different tune to all the other secondary schools.

Initially they closed the case without properly asking my son in detail what exactly happen. The teacher whom send my son to the 24hr clinic, just merely ask, " did u run n why did u run". Until I msg him n told him it was a prank that his friend did that cause it. That teacher went to ask the boys, is that person this kind of person that will do this kind of prank to other n everyone said no. He asked that boy n he changed the fact. So teacher concluded that if my son didn’t run , this accident will not happen n hence it is Pure Accident.

I was speechless n shocked. Looking at my son 8 stitches was nothing n no big deal is it…

I think the school should arrange for all the involved parties to sit down and talk to understand what exactly had happened. Can you request for this?

I m waiting for the sch investigation report.

But b4 that they already told me whatever punishment given will not be made known to me and informing the boy parents, it has to be very serious n grievances enough n plus the boy never repent.
The principal will only meet me n my hubby.
