Well my non-expert opinion is that the question states “committed to”. The child would be reasonably expected to use the same phrase “commitment to”.


Unless there is some English rule that says “commitment to” something is horribly unacceptable...and I don’t think so.

Thanks Zac’s mum. However answer sheet’s answer is ‘commitment in studying hard’, and also told by a NIE-trained English teacher that that is the correct answer. Thus like to hear some opinion here.

I agree with zac's mum。

Due to his commitment to studying hard, Bala did well in his examinations.

Committed to is pledging to a cause/goal, which is studying hard.

\"Committed in\" is actually less seldom used.
Eg. I am very committed in my career.
Your country is too committed in China.

Also, there is a difference between
Due to his commitment to studying hard, Bala did well in his examinations.
and
Due to Bala’s commitment to studying hard, he did well in his examinations.

In the first case, \"his\" can only refer to Bala while in the second, \"he\" can refer to Bala or someone else.
Therefore, the second will not be accepted as an answer for S&T question.

Dear phtthp, I like to start looking at the (EL paper's) Grammar questions, then its Vocabulary Cloze. If they are kind, straight-forward, you may want to save them for as a filler-activity. I'd randomly browsed a few Y2018 Prelims & like these which I saw: TaoNan, NYPS, HPPS.

Anyone attended jcarter oral classes before? I have been quoted $270 for 1.5 hr 1-1 session, minimum of 3 sessions.


Find that going through oral books have not yielded good results for us. Or anyone has good 1-1 tutor that can do few sessions of oral practice before PSLE?

$270 for 1.5h session = $180 per hr?? This is absurdly expensive. If you stay in Jurong West, you may want to try Miss Goh at 93989072. Think she has the capability to help your short term needs.

I am currently a full-time tutor and include the oral element in my 1-to-1 EL lessons. I majored in Linguistics and have been in the broadcasting industry for 10 years. So I do have the necessary tools for better speech and conversation. My schedule is almost full for this year, but if you need just a few lessons to prep for oral feel free to PM me.
