Dear Experts,
wanted to seek your opinion on Tanjong Katong Primary School.
From the past statistics TKPS only went for balloting in 2018 in phase 2CS, prior to that, till 2015 even people going for 2CS got in without ballot.
I was hoping for that as my choice for 2C phase and I live within 2 km of the school.
TKPS will have a new location (new building) and morning session from next year, compared to the temporary location and afternoon session last 2-3 years.

So what I wanted to know from the experienced folks here is, how much to trust the past 2-3 years data, since the school might not have been an ideal choice (due to afternoon session).
Do you guys think given the new location and morning session TKPS will be more popular in 2C/2CS phases?
while the predictions (projections) of 2019 are on this site, but are they only based on past data, or they also take into account the new factor like new popularity due to morning session.

Thanks and regard.

Are you SC? and staying 1-2km of the TKPS?

PR staying within 1-2KM.

PR staying within 1-2KM.
I should be asking if your kiddo applying as SC or PR?

I looked through the past 12 years, the only one time balloting was done in 2C was in 2012 and the balloting was done for PR staying 1-2km. Past stats give a good indication of what the future lies.

The problem for TKPS this year is the 40 places cut for the intake from 240 to 200. 2 years that seen less than 200 applicants until 2C is 2017 & 2018. If situation in Ngee ann remain low then perhaps more parents will try there and TKPS will see a continuation of 2017 & 2018 (ie lower than 200 applicants).

If you are applying as a PR, you need to secure your place while not fighting for places with the SCs. Meaning you also need backup choices in 2C, if the numbers in TKPS is filled up, by all SC and PR<1km, you need to move to the next choice of school which doesn't require you to ballot.

Hope the above helps.

Having said that though, kids are resilient creatures and adapt to cope with whatever school they are allocated. I know some kids who dislike their school environment & are miserable there, yet (for lack of experiencing other possible options) absolutely refuse to change schools when given the chance.

Never treat it as a lottery, its deliberate and calculated risk and informed decision making.

the official range in 2C should be around 1.3 to 1.5 applicant per vacancy.

PS: there is a tendency for people to register in that particular school that you stay close to although they are more than 1km or they are PR.
Thank you again for your kind words! Yes this is most definitely a calculated risk/investment decision more so than blind lottery. Bad choice of words from me :spank:

Based on previous trends of various other schools that underwent renovation/temporary holding sites, I believe the popularity always tends to drop during those registration years when the temp location is inconvenient/much further away from the original site.

And then when the renovation is done & moving back to the original (new) premises, the popularity will go back up again.

That’s all I know.

in that case the applicants may be +- 13 from 200. ie, range from 187 to 213.

RED colour always means proceed with caution.

Thank you for clarifying!

From the table I assume no balloting for SC <1km under 2b for awhile now?

2015 all SC <1km went in. All others got nothing
2016 Balloting for SC<1km
2017 balloting for SC >2km
2018 All SC <1km went in.

2019 TUR until 2A1 is higher than 2015, 2017 and 2018 now. (lower than 2016)
yeap, one school that might see increased applications is CHIJ Kellock. They moved into their original new premised in 2018. In 2016, 2017, there are availability in P2CS. In 2018 there is balloting for P2C for SC only (PR didn't get a chance to ballot). Similar stats should be seen this year, that is, all spots to be taken up in P2C, and there will be no P2CS. Question is if PR gets a chance to ballot in P2C.
