Hi doodbug, I have yet to find that out as DS is in Sec 2, similar to yours. I do hope towards the end of the year, the school conducts an insightful brief to the kids on what the various programmes entail before they do their subject selection.

Hi,
Can I check if there’s mid-yr exams in yr 1-4 and what’s the weightage for exams vs projects. -

So far for DS who is in Yr2, there is no MYE. Instead there are class tests and common tests throughout the year which contribute 30% of the overall grades. EOY exam contributes the remaining 70%.

You can refer to the HCI link for more details on the assessment criteria.

Dear all,
for the CIP hours, can all the hours be done externally, i.e. does not do any hours within the school?
Also, regarding MSP :
1) if Malay is dropped at end of year 1 or 2, is it written as \"dropped\" in the progress report/result slip? Does it affect anything?
2) for allocation of subject combination or special programmes at end of year 2, is the Malay result included in the MSG?
Eg. MSG (including Malay) is B4, does it mean a lower chance of getting into the subject combination of choice or special programmes?
TIA

Hi any parent here knows roughly how many CO will be given by HCI under math domain? 10 to 20? 20 to 30? Or usually how many kids are there under the math pull-out class? Thanks

-
Sorry not sure about Maths domain. But in DS’s batch 2 years ago in another domain, there were about 25+ COs given. Good luck.

An interesting info on NUS - I met a yr4 student in NUS High who decided to switch from Science/Maths to Economics. So NUS High gives certain flexibility to such students too.
Hi,
I am a P6 this year and would like to know whether to aim for either Hwa Chong or NUS High. I am good at math and science and am interested in these subjects. I am also really passionate about computing. However, I also like Hwa Chong as it is more all-rounded and its emphasis on Chinese culture. What are the pros and cons of joining both schools? Thanks if anybody can reply.
But, the fact that you like \"more rounded\" and \"Chinese culture\" - go for Hwa Chong.
All the best!! -
Hwa Chong has a good Computing programme; for this year’s Sec 2s, Computing is compulsory in lower Sec. (I think for your son’s batch, it may be compulsory for 4 years - not sure, best to check with the school).
For Maths and Sciences, it depends on the ‘league’ you are aspiring towards. If you are single minded in focusing on Olympiads in a specific field, NUS High may be in a better position to provide such training. However, if you are looking for a generally strong maths and science education, HCI curriculum is definitely challenging enough. HCI has many developmental and leadership training opportunities, with a long history and relatively strong school spirit. It is a larger school, so it has a larger range of CCAs and all.
The best and most important foundational training for Economics in university is actually, Mathematics. -
Ok, thank you so much for the replies!
