My Daughter Recieved WL for dance. May I know WL holders will be invited for the parent engagement session in October?
Dear parents,
Any pointers here? I also would like to know the chances of WL conversion. The vacancies to be converted to WL are for the specific stream or overall??
hi all,

My P4 daughter is interested in getting into SOTA suddenly, she is keen in singing (voice) and just started her CCA this year with her primary school after her teacher recommendation. She missed the SYF this year. May i know what sort of portfolio she need to prepare to get into SOTA? I really appreciate any one that can share with me, esp for audition via Voice as i have not plan to do DSA before and i think its a bit late as compare to others whom may have realised the kids interest or talent. She has piano background and currently pursuing Grade 4. Thank you!!

hi! current sota student here šŸ˜„ to be honest, you don't need a big fancy portfolio to get accepted into sota, you just need the passion and creativity towards the artform. for our year one theatre cohort this year, a lot of us didn't have any prior experience in theatre at all, so the chances are high even if you don't have much in your portfolio! šŸ˜„ hope this helps!

That's the dream, but I tend to disagree. For e.g. how they evaluate someone who has interest in string instruments, without having much prior training? There are institutes like NAFA which has gifted kids program for string and I do not know how to compete with them? Its like I have passion for swimming, I do not know swimming, but I am competing with Joseph Schooling :)
I have a different view. I agreed with @ch.arlatte. Passion is an important factor. I believe with passion, a child will have the motivation of \"self-learning\" and put in hard work. Without the passion, even with training, you are unable to do well. If my child has no passion, even I throw in TONs of money, engaging the TOP notch coach, he is still unable to do well or unwilling to do well.

My ds's classmate, who has no training before for piano. I am surprise that he can play quite well when he played the piano at my house. He said he self-learned it through YOUTUBE from scratch. My ds said his friend will ask him for \"advice\" on playing a new piece of song.

Hence, I believe SOTA will look into all these factor when choosing their students through DSA.

hi,
my dd is p5 this year and is considering applying to 2 domains in SOTA next year for DSA. Does anyone here know if applying to two domains will reduce her chances for each? thank you.
hi! no it will not reduce her chances haha, i have some classmates that applied for two artforms and got into one but didn't get accepted into the other, some got accepted for both too! it will only reduce her chances if she doesn't show that she has passion or the willingness to learn new things hAHA

hi! just saw this question haHA

i'm not sure about the numbers but from what i know through my classmates only a handful of us were on waitlist, but as told to us by the head of faculty there is a high chance you will get in anyway even if you are on waitlist! šŸ˜„ hope this helps!

Sota students and parents - appreciate your feedback on the iB program. I know the A levels can be very intensive towards year 5 to 6 and many attend tuition for their subjects. How about the IB? Does it mean that since the exams hold only 60 to 70% of the final score, it is not as detailed and intensive compared to A levels? Do most students go for tuition? How about SOTA - do the Teachers follow up closely on students and offer help or hold extra classes for the weaker ones? Thanks.

tuition?? tuition is unheard of in SOTA leh.

Hi im from sota and i have 4 tuitions so yes, many of my classmates have them too and it is not unheard of. I have siblings who are in the singaporean education system and we take the exact same subjects. I am able to do their exam papers as the standard is about the same. Sota is just a normal school with an added subject which is our art form. We don't do less than other schools academically. Due to our art forms, we usually end school daily around 7 to 9pm, depending on the day. Thus, we don't miss out or have a lower standard academically. (If there was, why did sota produce 2 president scholars so far??) The syllabus is the exact same from year 1 to 3 but is more IB based from year 4 to year 6. So yes many people on this forum say that sota is an arts school and the academics is easier but no, i have siblings to compare to and I can say that the standard is the exact same as \"top tier O level schools\". (my siblings are from these schools).

Coincidentally, both president scholars from SOTA were from dance. Just curious, is dance the biggest faculty in SOTA And has the most number of students? How about facilities and teaching resources wise, as compared to other art forms?

biggest domain in SOTA is visual arts, about 70-80 of the 200 per intake. not sure about dance, but probably 30-40 at most?

Inside SOTA, which is the smallest domain intake ?

Is it Theatre drama filming study or creative writing authorship domain or music composer ?

Dance, Literary Arts, Theatre and Music average have 30ish students.

Music has two tracks performance and creating. 3/4 of the music students are doing performance.
