I’m glad the LC is over, was the LC okay for everyone? How did it go?

Anyone can advise for CL compo, my girl always write 2 pages. Is it too short?
          - Depth of content + relevance to pictures rather than length of essay should be the main concern.
          - Is the story long because it's long-winded or it's rich in details and descriptions
          - 2 full page is not an issue if the student managed to deliver the plot with ample descriptions and accurate use of grammar and vocab.
          - For vivid/expressive content (opening paragraph, ending conclusion, different moods and reactions, transitions between pictures, speech), length wise will reach at least half of 3rd page.

Maybe try to lure your child to enhance the story by adding vocabulary and idioms, and remember when you write dialogues your child needs to start with a new paragraph. Maybe suggest your child to get used to writing the CODA/MORAL of the story at the last paragraph, that will end off the story well.

But most importantly, it's not the length of the story that matters, it is mostly the usage of words, grammar and punctuation that matters.

Remember to remind your child not to spend too much time on the introduction of the story, try to stretch the story at the conclusion. That way you are sure that your child will know how to manage the time taken to write the story.

              Dear Mummies,

For the compo… We have a bit of a confusion.

An esteemed enrichment centre has taught my DS to have a thematic ending and opening…Like say on Kindness or Resilience. Likewize for the ending echo the theme n state the hope for future etc.

On the other hand the school teacher considers this as a way of writing well ( like a thesis) but without a heart…

So in contrast gives more marks to kids who write using maybe dialogue or flashback in the beginning.

Im confused on what advise I shd now give my son for PSLE.

To me, it all depends on the teacher who marks n if they find the style of writing interesting enuf to capture attention.

Would really appreciate sharing on the strategy discussed in schools ot what u have seen in the model compos getti g high marks in schools or even enrichment centres.
At the end of the day, school teachers will be marking our plse kids compo!!

              Thank you soo much!

              Cheers

scaly, she set one of the hardest ... this year :nailbite: :imdrowning:

I remembered the sch tchr has made copies of a model compo for the class, the compo was written by an existing student (who has English tuition). The compo was graded 39/40. The main points I got away from the compo:
                    - Written in the style of what a P6 would write
                    - no big words but very emotive language
                    - intro and ending are related by way of writing
                    - storyline may be cliche but it’s relatable
                    - at least 3-4 pages

Thank you Chenlaoshi and Kaisueveryday for your valuable advice. This is helpful as I read my girl CL compo, many ending she ended with dialogue for example : Sorry, daddy, I will not do it again”…so I have asked her to add on “ after this incident…xx will not xxx”…

I also heard my girl said her friend wrote 3 pages but end up not enough time to complete…so time management it’s very important.
