There are definitely some kids from ACS Int'l/SJI Int'l/HCI Int'l having IB tuition at some of the IB tuition centres
All three schools do the IB, and Chinese at IB is already much much much less onerous than O level CL or HCL.
There are families who choose international school over local schools as they prefer the IB syllabus over the MOE syllabus (and they can afford it).
As for boarding schools, I've only checked out some of the boarding schools in the UK (I have no knowledge of Australia or US) - it is far more common for Hong Kongers to send their kids to Boarding School at the Secondary School stage, than Singaporeans. Singaporeans who go tend to enter at the equivalent of JC1. Generally, the A level requirements are much less onerous in the UK, as there is no GP, MT and PW requirement; neither are there CCA requirements. Also, you may be able to accelerate one year compared to Singaporean peers (if you leave at Sec 4 September intake, complete A levels in 1 year 9 months, and then join the September university intake in the same year of Jun A levels). -

have a friend whose kid P6 this year, faced learning difficulty, from a rich family.
This child had been failing all 4 subjects, since P1 to P6, in all (SA1, SA2) exam.
Although child faced learning difficulty, but MOE did not grant him exemption (Chinese).
So, he still took Standard Chinese PSLE paper (1 and 2) recently, on Monday (30 Sep 2019)
Ever advised parent to let child take Foundation Chinese, instead of Standard Chinese, since child couldn't get exemption from MOE. Parent initially did consider, but in the end, dropped the idea.
6 years ago, back then in 2014 Primary 1, this child could have joined a local Primary school, dedicated to handle education for special need kids. (won't mention the name of the primary school, here)
i told parents that that good local special-need primary school, would benefit child, long term wise.
However, because this parent is a very senior key personnel working in a highly visible, high-powered organization, because of \"face\" issue, parent insisted that child go study in a GEP primary school, because parent is an alumni from a coveted GEP school, so enrolled child into GEP primary school.
Based on recent August 2019 P6 Prelim, child also failed all 4 subjects. Each subject, scored way below 50 / 100
parent think likely this child will fail 2019 PSLE.
As a result, parent think that likely, child be channelled into a \"local Secondary school, dedicated for students who failed PSLE\", via MOE S1 posting results.
However, parent don't want child to go into this local Secondary school, because of \"face\" issue.
Parents don't want relatives nor office colleagues, to know that child going to be posted there.
Due to learning difficulty, child not independent, the parents won't send child to overseas boarding school

from above sharing, since this child's rich parents can afford, is it better to
- homeschool him, or
- send child to a \"ACS / HCI / SJI\" International School, for secondary education ?

Unbeknownst to many KS heartlanders, SJI is a hidden gem@Malcolm. I know a lot of SJI boys. Got 2 in my dept. Some of my HNW friends who only fine wine and dine did not care about PSLE and other national exams, but only aimed for SJI International. It's an oft-forgotten \"贵族书院\" with a deep pocket. Lots of donations, sponsorships, intangible frills and perks you can't get at govt schools. They are in their own league.

No, in Singapore only primary school education is compulsory. After that, u do what u like.
But even then, there are cases falling through the cracks. Like that recent case where the 2 year old toddler was murdered, and her remains discovered only 5 years later. Meaning she never registered for P1 and authorities did not realize.
Also I know of some families with primary school age children who migrate overseas (JB also considered overseas btw) and therefore don’t need to attend primary school in SG anymore. -

I am not referring to stanford or caltech. like what other good colleges are there? not necessarily MIT.

Homeschooling is not for the faint-hearted. In general, one parent needs to be very involved, even at sec school. For a child with special needs, a parent needs to be very involved. They could engage a homeschool tutor(s), but I'm not sure whether there are good ones who could manage special needs.

I can't comment on the International schools - but it also depends on whether the schools are willing and able to provide the right level of support.
There are actually boarding schools which are designed for kids with special needs. I recently heard that someone I know sent their child to such a boarding school in the US and they seem happy with it. Not close friends, but my husband saw it on FB. If your friend is able to afford it, it can be an option. Personally, I wouldn't send my special needs child away as I think she needs us nearby, but maybe it would work for some. -

This is very interesting. Most primary schools will insist the child sit Foundation subjects if they failed P5. But I guess the parent had big enough influence to override the school...

If fail PSLE two times, can apply to Northlight School (MOE does not post kids there, u apply yourself). If fail PSLE one time, can apply also but less priority I think.

Does anyone know what is the pre-requisite for the student to be able to study either Biology-Chemistry-Math-Econs or Chemistry-Physics-Math-Econs at year 5 at these schools such as RI, NJC, HCI? Having this information would be good for us to decide whether to select these schools for the S1 exercise, knowing that it is going to be very competitive there
