neighbourhood shops also sell kites; tom & stef, etc.
thanks jedamum, just what I need. When I was young, we made the kites n flew them from our kitchen window.... The world has changed, product n venue also differs...

Not sure if Marina Barrage is going to be crowded on Vesak Day, but I can bet it will be, but think it should not be that bad as the place is quite big.

Haha, don't think you are asking for the sky! I am šŸ™ for good weather too!

Wanted to go in the evening when it is a bit cooler, but friend's family cannot make it in the evening as they have to go to the Temple in the evening, so we are settling for brunch on that day.

Yes, hate those mozzies, but what to do, our kids need some fresh air too, like you said, they are just like plants! šŸ˜Ž

There is someone selling kites at the empty plot of land along Pasir Ris Drive 3 where many people fly their kites during the weekend.

Very crowded, but many beautiful kites. I crashed my stingray kite about 2 months back šŸ˜ž Paid $15 for it. Then I bought another one, a sotong, at a nearby neighbourhood shop for only $3.90. Apparently, all these kites come from China, that's what the seller told me. I also understand that the Sengkang site also has a seller there too. The 7-11 store at the Anchorvale CC has some kites.

Anyway, you can also try this website to get your kites. On the expensive side though.

Just sharing my own experience. Yes, there is no shade or shelter up at the field area at Marina Barrage. The only shelter is downstairs where the cemented area is, but cannot fly kites from there! 😢

Actually the big field at Marina Barrage is at level 3. Can take a lift up there. I blur blur walk up the slope & realise there is a lift. :stupid:

Level 2 is the exhibition hall & a cafe.

I went there because its my DD's school family day. Took the opportunity to go there see see look look. Too bad that day is a rainy day. šŸ˜ž

Level 1 has a small water playground. Juz water pool, no slide. My kids enjoyed playing there although it is small.

Overall is a good experience. Also learn something about the function of our city reservoir.

ksi, and autumnbronze, specially for you as requested at the Playground last night .....

                        Tips about Marina Barrage :

                        1) be there early, the earlier you get there, the better your chance of reserving a spot at the very limited shaded area for your picnic.

                        2) there are 2 water coolers there, one on Level 1, and another on Level 3 at field area, so don't need to bring too many bottles of water.

                        3) There is an aircon gallery at Level 2. The kids were using that place as a hideout from the scotching sun every now and then, good idea

                        4) Parking at the public car park is free for the time being, not sure how long this would last.

                        Enjoy ....
