      Hi all,

My dd likes RGS, having gone to its Open House and spoken to students there. I too like it very much, but am concerned.

With so many outstanding girls, competition will be fierce. Do RGS girls need a huge amount of tuition? And as my child is studious but rather sweet and shy, how will she even get noticed by the teachers or the confident, assertive classmates?

With so many outstanding girls, competition will be fierce.

      - There is no segregation of gep, ms or dsa class. Therefore I don't feel follow the crowd chasing of credentials, parents/students wanted to know which is the best class, comparing of results whatsoever. Which is good.

Do RGS girls need a huge amount of tuition?

      - So far none after year one. Hopefully maintain.

And as my child is studious but rather sweet and shy, how will she even get noticed by the teachers or the confident, assertive classmates?

      - My child is shy, quiet and laid back too. As long as it doesn't affect learning, it is fine. Teachers will note every student for ptc and eoy reports. As for classmates, minimally will have few hang around friends.

      Hi peasants,

Very witty, \"peasants\"! Yes, my child is on the shy, quiet side, but makes friends easily with children like her. Not so easy with the \"cool\" kids.

Now that shes in upper primary in the best class, with more outspoken, fun kids, shes struggling to get noticed by her teachers. Or rather, she does not care very much about being noticed, and I worry about whether girls like mine will be overlooked for less kind, but more assertive people.

At some point, we parents have to accept the child we have. Not all are, or can be, or even want to be, assertive (as in the case of your daughter), and that is something that is unlikely to change. So rather than try to be what they are not (which is very stressful), I would encourage them to accept themselves, and find ways that they are comfortable with to get on with whatever they aspire to. Such kids are not likely to even want to be leaders in the normal meaning of the word (the \"noisy\", assertive type), but will lead in smaller spheres, and influence in their own unique ways. As long as they have inner confidence and do not allow themselves to be easily swayed or pushed around, they will have their spheres of influence.

I am personally not the typical \"leader\" type. I don't like to stand up in front and lead, though I was always quite opinionated and no-one has ever really succeeded in pushing me around! But I was much stressed growing up trying to be the type of leader that my father wanted me to be - assertive/bossy, outspoken, much noticed. I've tried not to pressure my own kids that way. My RGS girl daughter is very social, and also very collaborative. She doesn't like to assert herself very much but leads by getting people to cooperate. And most teachers did recognise that - they may not ask those girls to take the \"front\" leadership roles, but they appreciate those who get the job done in quieter, pleasanter ways too!

Are you planning for DSA for your child? Cos I am not an advocate of DSA, so way of approach is different.

While DSA has its flaws, for some, it may be the only opportunity to qualify and enter schools like RGS.

Due to the recent chances PSLE, especially in MTL exemption, if you do not have 4 standard subjects under the new scoring system, the likelihood of you qualifying for RGS via PSLE is probably 0%. As 2020 is the last time that t-score will be used, I suspect it will closely mirror the score / criteria use for 2021 than 2019. Therefore, the likelihood of MTL-exempted students not being able to meet the COP is extremely high.

Feedback to the new Principal of RGS, and management committee that organized RGS Open house today conducted 16 Nov, 2019 (Saturday), from 8.30 am to 12 noon, @ Braddell site

              - the canteen, on ground floor, not opened today ( Saturday )

should provide small bottle of mineral water, to guests who visited Open house today.

No water issued, canteen stall closed. Many parents, students, guests sit around inside the canteen, feeling thirsty.
And there are so many people that came Open house, today

Water is the most basic, fundamental human need.

Do not see any water cooler

Many guests gathered inside the canteen, sitting around

Difficult papers, new campus… how will that play out to affect the COP for this year’s intake?

RGS is going green. They have stopped giving out mineral water since early this year. Parents and guests are advised to bring own water bottles. The canteen is not ready and is not in operation yet. School helped to arrange for food catering to students for the last week of school after they moved to the new campus. Maybe the school should have communicated this to the visitors today.

But there are many water coolers scattered around the school. If you asked, the girls would be more than happy to point you to one nearby.
