I am a Maths tuition teacher since 2014. I have been dealing with P6 students every year. The factor that caused the results to differ should be examination anxiety. I keep reminding my students to stay calm when taking PSLE exam. If one cannot stay calm, the child might make mistakes even on a simple question or the questions they actually know how to do.
My girl cried when walked up to me with her results. A second before she burst out I thought she was playing a fool as she was hardly serious about result. So heartbroken. This scene keeps etching in my mind. Think school prelim gave her confidence but didn’t expect psle to be worse. My two kids both did better in school than psle, that made me wonder why. Even their consistent A subject becomes B.
Last year i have a P6 girl got 87 for her school Prelim exam but got a B for PSLE exam because she was paranoid during her Maths exam.
And even though there is a formula calculating PSLE results based on your school prelim results, i always tell my students to minus 5-10 points for anxiety mistake so that the child will not feel devastated when they see their results. -

Hi all,
Is it true that ESIS is for top 3% scorers? If 261 is the eligiliby this year, then shd be roughly rtop what per cent? Can anyone advise?
Can check if u are eligible for ESIS and you choose not to go to independant school, will you still get the $2400? -
For your second question, the answer is no. You only get to use ESIS if you go to an independent school.

technically u are incorrect becos ESIS is awarded to Singaporean students who are in the top one-third of the total number of Secondary 1 students admitted to all indep schools. But how this top 3% came about, i suspect it's becos the lowest score for entry into indep school is about 250, n a T-score of 250 is usually top 10%, so the top one-third of 10% is roughly top 3%.

If u dun choose an indep school, of cos u will NOT get the $2400 becos the purpose of ESIS is to defray the higher school fees of indep schools so as to encourage top students fr financially humble families to apply. -

wear primary school uniform, bring student ID (EZ-link card). Maybe some sec schools might want the students to bring report book but i think tat's not common nowadays.
