No. Only CJC for the bonus points.

Depending on whether you are an OP or IP student, as they are affliated to different JC.

IP students, who joined the IP programme in Year 1, are affliated to Eunoia Junior College in Year 5

OP students, who joined O-level program in Sec 1, are affliated to Catholic Junior College after finished (completed) O-level, just like All other Secondary students studying in Catholic affliated (related) Secondary schools

Hi, not sure if this chat group is still active...
would anyone know the criteria for O levels students to be considered for IP? or is there such an option?
When u join our St Nick OP program, in Sec 2 January Term 1, Principal will brief both Sec 2 (parents and students) that streaming @end-of-Sec2 is expected, into different Sec 3 subject combination and some will be offered (invited) to join Sec 3 IP program, to those who do well. You may ask VP (academic) or P on that day discreetly, what criteria expectation, as they will be around on that briefing day, or other curious burning questions that u have

hi parents can i confirm that you can do standard chinese in st nicks sec?

how are both the o level n ip program there?
any parents with girls in the ip program as well as taking mep? can girls manage or those 2(ip & mep) will be a heavy workload?
does school end late into evenings?

also what are the chances if you enter o level route, can you ‘promote’ to ip in sec 3?
basically just what does ip do academically that’s different from o level?

please share parents as we are clueless!!

hello! I’m not a parent but I’m currently in sn sec3 ip but I hope this helps.
                1) you can do standard Chinese in the o level program but you can only do higher Chinese in ip
2)I personally do not take mep but from what I know mep in lower Sec is pretty okay as it’s held during curriculum time but in upper Sec it’s after sch but one shld be able to manage it as it’s counted as a subj itself so your child will still take the same Amt of subjs as everyone else
                3) cca typically ends at 6.30
                4) if you’re in o level and at the end of sec2 have done very well academically you will be given the offer to transfer to ip that you can accept or reject
                5) to generalise it o level has more exams and ip has more graded assignments to “replace” the exams so in ip we only have 2 exams a yr
you can come to our open hse tmr! More details are on the sch website

                    I would like to add.

For 2019 sec 1, both O and IP have 2 exams a year in term 2 and term 4 and graded assignments/ assessments in term 1 and term 3.

                    Some CCAs end at 6pm.

MEP is done during curriculum time so it cannot be heavier? 3rd lang would be heavier cos 3rd lang is done outside curriculum time.

We are considering between IP and OP St Nick as secondary school selection first choice.

Understand from a student of an equivalent CHIJ school that the school prioritizes IP students over OP students in many aspects including classroom facilities, treatment etc. Any existing St Nick OP student has similar feeling? The student also shares that teachers do not teach much in class and expect students to do self-studying outside school. Just wondering if St Nick students also experience the same?

Hope an existing St Nick student can share. Greatly appreciate it!

There is one sec 1 IP class that has a bigger classroom that has 3 doors. All other IP and OP classrooms have 2 doors. So I am thinking it is just a building layout issue. Not that this particular IP class is more special. I think there. Is always a bigger classroom to cater for wheelchairs. For classroom “facilities”, they are all the same — they have tables and chairs of the same model, ceiling fans, AIR PURIFIERS in every classroom, etc.

Treatment. For Speech Competition, Song Writing Competition, Maths Olympiad, Creative Art Program (by MOE GEB), NEmation, Lower Sec overseas immersion, etc, all on volunteer sign up basis. So it is open to all.

School work. They use textbooks in the booklist. For science that has no textbooks, they give out school-prepared booklets. I find everything very organised. I just asked if they are supposed to do self study, she said they are expected to revise school work at home. Some assignments require them to include content not found in textbooks to beef up your own assignment. Which I think is fair.

For additional info, the OP and IP exam scope has minor differences, eg Chinese could be from Lesson 1 to 10 for IP but Lesson 1 to 9 for OP. Very minor in my opinion.
