I drove past the new EJC campus the other day, it looks really impressive!

Ya man. I am so conflicted btw VJ and EJ now.

I think it really depends on where you live and which is most convenient.

Older sibs are all VJC IP.
I am inclined to EJC for its large n lush campus LOL
Older sibs say don’t hv to wear shorts for all 4 years if ds choose VJ IP plus they can hand him down all the old tees.
Bringing him to both schools for a look-see. Sibs are coming along to ‘influence’ his decision.
Difficult choice.

don't just look at the large new campus, because that is just the Hardware part, the outer-shell, look and feel only

maybe, consider along the line ...

What is it, that Euonia Junior College has or can offer, that Victoria Junior College doesn't have, and vice versa ?
And what have, or don't have, how important (vital) is it, to your 2019 P6 son ?

Also, if he come to EJC, he will study at Catholic High (IP), SAP school & mission school, from Year (1 to 4)

But if he choose VJC, Non-SAP school, he will study at Victoria school (IP), from Year (1 to 4)

Which Secondary school environment (culture), u think, suits your son better ?

Don't u think that the Secondary school is more important, since after all, spent a much longer time & exposure, there : 4 years vs. only spent a short stint, 2 years at the JC ?

========================

However, ilovelaksa,

if your son is taking 2020 Sec 1 OP instead of IP, then no concern, for now. Wait until after he sit for O level in Year 2023, his O level results out in January 2024, then based on his L1R5 score, by then, see which Junior College he can gain admission into.

Currently, based on 2019 JC1 admission entry, the Cut-off-point for JAE students, the COP for EJC and VJC, differ. By then, in another 4 years' time, going forward into the future, we won't know what can happen

Ceteris paribus, VJC would be a better option if your son is JC-bound in the next 2 years. EJC may need another 2 years to “settle down”.

Thank you Phtthp and Floppy.

I am more familiar with Victoria but probably hv to find out more about CHS/EJC.
I hv no doubt EJC is a good JC but I hv some concerns for my son if he opts for CHS cuz his Chinese is really bad.
But still hv a little time to think through with him.

Not an easy decision 🙂 You can also look at the different special programs and the CCAs that both schools have and see which one would he be more interested in and which one would provide him with better exposure and opportunities?

Ilovelaksa,

Having elder siblings in vjc, what are your concerns that lead you to not want to default choose vjc?
If it is good enough, the brothers can have shared topics for many years to come, isn’t that more precious than new campus? Unless the boy wants to carve out his own niche in a brand new environment…

We hv no issues with VS and VJC, both schools are great! Previously ds1 chose VS bcuz of affiliation to VJC, that was before they started IP. He didnt like CHS also. He was the first yr3 IP batch. He applied in Sec2 and got in based on his Sec2 results.

Even though he had to travel the long distance to Victoria, he will not hesitate to tell you that he spent the best 6 years of his life there. This is echoed by many of his friends n even my dd1’s friends who were from VS. VJ has a very strong school spirit.

However, this year is different. CHS is now part of an IP programme which leads to a JC with a very capable cohort. Once the new campus starts, I think EJC’s cop will drop.

Many of my dd2’s classmates are aiming for EJ instead of NYJC. The most attractive thing for me is our distance to CHS and EJC.

Ds2 has no preference for any IP as long as he gets a hp when in sec sch lol
Yes you are right the sibs will hv more to share in the future. It will be quite special if they were all from the same JC. If we do go with VS/VJ, dd2 said she will hv to work very hard to get into VJ too. She said she will be so stressed!

Hi ilovelaksa,

Do u (or son) already have any specific A-level subject combination, in mind ?

If Yes, check whether both (VJ and EJ) offer. If both also offer, no issue.

But, if between these two JC, only one offer the combination that u want, whereas the other doesn't, that will guide your decision making
Probably a bit too early still to think about A level subj combi.
But afaik, EJC does offer the common Arts/Science/Hybrid combis.

Drove pass Bishan park. The new EJC building is really beautiful and the elevated running track is quite amazing.

Heard from my teacher friends that there is a 800 capacity aircon auditorium and there will be escalators!

Its obvious people know Vjc results dropped.
...

It’s obvious with statement like these, we know who you are 😂

Not even sure whether you have read ilovelaksa post thoroughly. Her son is from VS / VJC, it is obvious she has first hand info in how the school is doing, results and discipline wise.

My daughter is also a current VJC student lol
Is she one of those with thigh-length skirts, always 30 mins early for the start of her second lesson (wait... was she supposed to be there for the first?), blond hair and results improve from A to B?

Pity her. Must have really dreaded those anal school rules.

To get back on topic, I doubt your son will go wrong with either CHS or VS, since you will reap the rewards after the bedding in period for EJC.
