If u can get bursary to offset bulk of the independent school fees, then it may seems plausible to choose it. If u do not have the option, I feel that the extra 100-200 u pay may not be worth it. Maybe if u choose RV, the “saved” school fees can be used for private tuition fee or extra enrichment material. My personal view.

Different strokes for different folks - as the saying goes - there are some students who are truly motivated to take up a 3rd language - my friend's kid loves Japan and took up Japanese - in fact, the only motivation for taking HMT was to qualify for the \"higher\" 3rd languages, like Japanese.

The kid is now a young adult and working in Singapore, but with a focus on Japan and travels there once a month on business - simply because of the ability to converse in Chinese, Japanese and English.

So, yeh, that is ONE answer to your \"why\"?

we encourage our DD to go for 3rd language, becos she is naturally interested in languages n it's a good opportunity to get out of school n make more frens. The utility aspect of the 3rd language is a secondary consideration but who knows if it will be important later in life. I do know of a fren who is now heading a French company's regional office becos he took French at O and A levels.

Unfortunately the 3rd language classes now are grouped by schools. So little chance to make friends from other schools.
that's a pity

i saw somewhere else in the KSP forum tat about 120 students in Taonan got >250.

everyone complain psle tough....... These kids make it look like it;s some kindergarten exam...... too qiang oredi..... Maybe next time they will only announce 260 or more..... too many in the 250s range

But do bear in mind tat Taonan is not a typical pri sch....it has GEP classes 😉
Yes, agree with Timmy21. The schools with GEP classes have better percentage of students got > 250.
Rosyth School has 31% of students got 250 and above this year. Total 34 students got >=265.

If you score 252, how do you know if you qualify for IP? Thanks.

              Hi,

can I check something about eligibility for third language? What is the difference between Malay (Special Programme) and Bahasa Indonesia? Does it help in any way since there is no O levels in IP programmes? Will there be a need for EOY exam? Are these counted for grading for promotion to the next level?
Asking about experiences if any from RI parents or students.
              Thank you

Probably will need to check cop of the different IP schools.

If i recall correctly, their cohort should be 360.

If 360 excludes GEP, then 70/360 MS is only 19.4% scoring above 250. Not v impressive then.

I was told RGPS has something like 45% above 250 and if 55 GEP kids all scored above 250, then they have about 100 out of 270 or 280 MS kids scoring above 250. That is about 35%. But I did not see the slides. I got this info from group chats.

                  yes 45% above 250.
Wow wow crazy. 45% above 250... RGPS must be the top primary school with such a result.

nobody pre-sets the T-score to qualify for IP. Based on historical COP data, 252 has a good chance of getting into the IP courses at TJC, SJC or RV. But if this year's cohort did very well (hypothetical situation, dun scare yourself huh), it is possible tat 253 is the minimum COP to get into any IP course, leaving students with score of 252 unable to get into any IP school.

This being said, does that mean that someone who scores less than 250, for example 240 - 249 can also choose IP in their choices?

You won't know the COP before the posting exercise, isn't it? The S1 option form and eligibility form only statethe course eligible as Express or Normal, but not IP?

What I'm asking is, is there a hard cut-off for IP e.g. 252.0000. Or is it 252.XXX, right down to the decimal point, because that correspond to the top 10% or top 9.XX%, whatever they have decided before the PSLE results are announced.

Or the IP schools fill up all their X,XXX IP places based on merit. So if IP lose its popularity one day and most go back to 'O' levels, maybe 240 can get into IP instead?
