I would pick cchm for its Long history, rich culture and alumni support. The school is big, the pond serene and the environment is conducive to studying, many bright and airy spaces. One of the best canteen stalls found in many sec schools. It’s not too far from sengkang and it’s 5 min walkable from mrt

        Hi Imp75,

that what my boy like he keep emphasizing on the conducive environment and the WOW factor of the schools… even air con in all the classroom. I’m so lost… distance or child preference!!

My concern is the walk from mrt to school back gate no shelter. if raining cats and dogs child will be drenched.

Hi, my boy got 252 for his psle. Between Chung Cheng Main and Nan Chiau High which is better? My boy likes Chung Cheng Main alot he said has chemistry with the sch. On the other hand, Nan Chiau is opposite my house only. Hope to be able to hear more opinions from everybody. Much appreciated. Tqvm.
Of course Nan Chiau High as it is so near your house. CCM is good but if your child can endure the long travelling hours 5 days a week with heavy bag to carry and packed like sardines public transport, he can choose but don’t regret. CCM has affiliation but is that the target JC your child has in mind ?

            Hi ptthp and FantasyLandDreams,

let say if Nan Chiau High also has this stringent requirement on HCL in sec 3 (recalled my boy chinese tutor mentioned/grumbled to me abt this) does this mean going cchm will be better? at least he has affilation points to fall back on.

            tqvm for you advice.
Tomorrow Monday morning (25 Nov), give a call to Nan Chiau High : confirm with their VP (Academic) or Principal or Chinese HOD, whoever is around tomorrow because Secondary school year-end holiday (vacation) had started, what is their Higher Chinese requirements like, at Upper Sec (3 and 4) ? If none of them around, tell admin is urgent, bec u need to clarify the needed info, as u have a tight date-line to submit your choices of 6 Secondary schools, leave behind your name and contact hp number, ask them (the Officer-in-charge) to return u a call.

Whatever finding u gather, discuss with
your son and spouse, as a family together. If choose NC high and your son do well at year 2023 O-level, he can also choose other JCs, apart from Nanyang JC

In the event that u decided to choose CCM (Main), see whether u can rent out your current house, collect the income rental, in turn rent out another house for next years, closer & nearer to CCM (Main), cut down travelling time. Ultimately, it is your son who is the one studying and travelling, for next 4 years

cannot rent out still got a youngest staying in a school nearby (walking distance) from my house also.
after much thinking and speaking to family members and friends, likely will let my boy make his decision on sec.
at least in future, i can shot him back saying its your choice.

since school bus needs to pick him so early now i think next solution is to find someone (car pool) from Sengkang to Serangoon Mrt Station.

I live in Punggol. My children wake up 530am, leave the house 610am for CCHM ( taking MRT). They turn in around 9pm nightly. So far they have no issue with the early wake up times. Probably CCHM has relatively less homework. CCHM’s school notes are good, commented by their primary school tuitor.

One area I like about CCHM is they inculcate value like resilience, pride and honour in my children. These are good values for them to acquire in their formative years.

Which cca does your children join? i read from school website sports end closed to 615pm. They will reach home around 7:30pm latest do they still have time to do their homework? I likely will let him continue English tuition but looking at this can only have tuition on weekend.

Therefore, listen to your son. He should be the one getting worried, not you. FWIW, it seems that he has already made up his mind, so what’s the concern? If he can score 252, I’m sure he’s intelligent enough to weigh the pros and cons on his own

                        Hi Kaydenmama,

Phtthp is right. Pls call NaN Chiau high tmr to find out more. Another piece of news I just heard, it seems NC is offering some scholarship thingy for those high scorers too? Sorry I don’t have full info on this…

Cchm don’t have much homework in Sec 1 this year, one main grouse of my frens actually: too free. Yet very strict with length of skirt, hair, punctuality etc. Is your Son ok with such ‘rigidity’, or known as ‘strict discipline’ if I were to view it positively? Some boys in our school are very ‘sianz’ over this now after one year, as boys tend to bochap more…

And if you choose cchm, I think you would need chinese tuition more than English tuition, frens kids had been failing Sec 1 chinese papers or nearly fail kind. And they have hcl distinction for psle somemore.

I agree that children likes to blame us now if we make the choice for them. But my counter reaction is: if I let u make the choice, you must be prepared to be scolded by me if you slack and did not do well in future. Some of my frens even let the children sign an agreement on this and add in those handphone usage clauses too haha. Bottom line: children must also bear responsibility and consequences for their choices.

As for cchm being affiliated to nyjc, depends on how you see it and your assessment of your child’s ability. Some see it as a plus point to have something to fall back on. But if your Son is those 250 range, I have seen many examples proceeding to vjc or even hci and rjc too after o levels.

I have nothing against cchm, just want you to find out more to make the best choice that is acceptable for both parties. Cheers!
