All of my Mac laptop lasted more than 3 years, even the most basic ones, and I’m talking all the way back to iBook G3.
I am contradicting between MacBook Air and Pro. Will Macbook Air be enough to last for 4 years?
What are everyone buying? Can share?
To stretch it to more than 4, you will probably need to go for the Pro with the latest i5 quad core chip. You may want to max out the ram to 16GB since Ram is no longer a user upgradable component. That said, 8GB ram is probably more than adequate for typical users. JK is selling a 512GB SDD version whereas Apple own base set comes with 128GB SDD. Frankly, 128GB / 256GB is more than enough if you learn how to make use of external HDD (1TB or 2TB are going for rock bottom prices). -

Thanks, floppy! I was just going to ask about the difference of the various gb numbers. I’m tending towards getting a 128 and then he can use an external hdd. The price difference is pretty significant.

Hi!
Has anyone tried using the iPad Pro as a ‘replacement’ for the MacBook Air?
It’s a pretty powerful processor. -

Yes and no. It depends on how you intend to use it.

If your primary usage is the internet and basic office productivity tools like word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, the iPad Pro will suffice. However, once you step into the realm of professional software, especially image and video processing, or even advanced spreadsheet functions, the iPad Pro is out, at least for now. Things are looking better but as a replacement, still at least a couple of years too early.
Actually, given the way how most people use their laptop, a iPad Pro w/ physical keyboard is probably more than sufficient. You will need to make extensive use of the cloud to circumvent iPad lack of physical storage space. -

I also ordered mine from JK and the waiting time is at least 10 days. I thought that is rather long. How long do you have to wait?
I ordered a customised laptop from JK and it’s still cheaper than the Sitex and Apple website. I feel JK deals are the best. So if you are not satisfied with the 2 or 3 offered on JK website and want something in between, email them for a quote. -
hi parents/students… need get microsoft office?

My advise for the Mac book,is to get the extended warranty for the 4yrs. My son just finished his O level last month at SST and my girl (also in SST) is going Sec 3 next year. My son used Mac Book Air and my girl used Mac Book Pro. The Pro is faster and more powerful but heavier. My advise is to order the mac book as soon as possible, these mac books are customized so there is lead time. There are cases where sec 1 student started school without their mac book and only get it on the 2nd or worst case 3rd week of school. As for Microsoft office, it is not a must, most of the time the student use Google Classroom, a lot of work are done on the Mac book.
