Why need to submit primary school report book to secondary school?

Not sure. We didnt need to give to anyone ever since collecting it from pri sch.

Yup. Never been asked for report books.

In anycase, if a sec sch educator need to ask to look into past grades & comments of behaviour or child’s achievements, I shld thinknits passé. Today’s educators look at working with the student on a clean slate to achieve sth based on new sec learning.

I certainly hope sec sch educators help our kids to make new frds, acquire the joy of learning & be inquisitive abt learning every new things. If the child alr qualifies for the sec sch & assigned to the class with students of similar level, it shld suffice for educators to deliver & inspire the kids. I’m thankful mine had nvr had to present any Pri report books or peers asking for T-scores. Guess they’re just happy to hv a new start.

          No lah, Not yet passe

some Secondary schools still request students to bring along their primary school Report book, when report to school on Monday, 23 Dec 2019, 8.30 am

There must be some reason, why the school want to check for info, inside the Report card. If really need to know the reason, can ask the school

          Example

          Serangoon Garden Secondary school

Btw anyone knows the tradition behind rgs rjc girls why they hv to fold sleeves? decades ago already like dat
I asked the same question last year. All I know is this is school endorsed attire, not of trending. So must buy bigger size blouse, t shirt etc.

Thankfully, I don’t hv to face a Principal to question for the rationale for looking back at my child’s Pri Sch report book. What wld the record of their past grades for prior learning hv to do with new phase of Secondary learning journey?

What has general remarks of other Pri educators’ assessment of my child’s good or bad behavior hv to do with any new teachers of a higher grade which my child had been promoted to? I wld very much like them to meet my child & experience the new chemistry & interaction without past blinked views of subjective or general behavioral judgement.

All other records of NAPFA become irrelevant. As my child grows, i wld expect new assessments to be done afresh. My kids’ involvement with so many other CCAs, Performing Arts & Competitions hv no more bearings. What DSA my child hv be admitted for, the other competitions & achievements hv no direct bearings & I was surprised the sch had kept my child in MO practice team year after year despite not using MO for DSA.

JMO. My point is, good educators shld look fwd to engage & guide the child to build upon what the child naturally exhibits during secondary sch life & not look backwards. This wld set a healthy learning environment for kids & provide scaffolding for students who wld not like their past to be hanging over their heads.

Is it because your son scored A * in his Psle Maths, a few years ago ?
Hence, he was selected for MO training (those scored A * in PSLE Maths) since Secondary 1, despite not using MO for DSA ?

Think u’ve been in many threads to know PSLE Math has nothing to do with MO?

Think u’ve been in many threads to know PSLE Math has nothing to do with MO?
                    I think, u have misunderstood

What u mentioned above, was refering to \"Primary\" school MO training, from (P3 to P6). In primary schools, even if students not been selected by school for MO training, so many parents still sent their child for external MO training, on their own.
But, whatever happened in ex primary school, already become past history.

I not refering to primary school MO training
I am refering to Secondary school scenario, because below was what happened, in some Sec schools.

                    Based on actual Psle results,
some Secondary schools obtained a list of students names who scored A *, during the actual Psle exam.

So, some (Not all) SEC schools use this name list (of A * students, for the Psle Maths paper which they sat for), to send their Sec 1 students for further training in MO, and prepare them for Junior Olympaid in Maths, as an example. SEC school still have Olympaid

I am not sure if this is happening in your son's Secondary school, because your son is in IB programme, while majority of us are in OP / IP-A level Sec schools, different track.
                    That's why I posed u a question.

In Sec school, for OP / IP A-level schools, there exists

                    - Junior Maths Olympaid (MO),
                    - Junior Chemistry Olympaid (CO),
                    - Junior Physics Olympaid (PO), etc

again, not All Sec schools participate. Amongst IP-A level schools, only certain ones stand out, are active in participation.

I am not familiar with IB programme, not sure if IB schools also participate in these, as IB curriculum itself differ from the A-level curriculum .
Do enlighten us, if can. Thanks

Nothing to do with IB non-IB dearie. Pls do not keep highlighting my son in IB. He’s a normal child & I do not want u to single him out & keep harping on IB. Any other talented child can do MO even not in IB schools & not in IB or IP programme.

Those achieved A* for Math in PSLE hv NO BEARING to MO abilities. You keep pointing at misunderstandings but u’ve not grasp this point. MO is very different fr mainstream math, hence MO is a TALENT some parent so sort after to pay bucks to train. MO is ‘trainable’ if the child hv the talent for it & sec schools hv these handful for training which are just practices of varieties of approaches. So schools hv a list, some just don’t coz many of these talents wld hv congregated in some schools & less in most other schools.

With regards to all your other queries, yes, IB curriculum differs in IB, but you wld be the first who know that even btwn diff IP schools, their Programmes are diff.

Again dear diff curricula in subjects & in particular the subj of math is different fr MO. You might want a paradigm shift to think of MO as a CCA rather than a subj. That’s why I keep highlighting Math ability does not equate MO ability.

Again, just as MO shld be viewed as a CCA, many schools does offer talented individuals weekly time to congregate (as like chess players) to practice Chemistry Olympaid, etc. If u’re keen in these areas, u shld look out for NUSH offerings. They hv competitive CO or PO keen challengers, which not many other schools hv the resources to train their students for.
