My advice to parents who’re going through PSLE for the 1st time - chill, cos it’s still a long journey towards tertiary education.

I noticed erm parent/parents whose child/ children probably did well in the psle being all excited and even discussing JC combi etc - good PSLE results don’t set your child for the rest of his school years.

In fact, my dd is from a good IP school. It’s been a humbling experience. She had to sacrifice leisure time, compromise on family time and was under severe stress esp near projects deadlines, which were quite frequent throughout the 4 years. A few of her peers broke down when the sleep deprivation and stress got to them. A few of her friends questioned what life is. We, as parents, felt for them. Yes, my dd did remarkably well for her PSLE. But did it mean a carefree journey after? No. It was more stressful than JC. We were just happy for her to quickly finish 1 year and proceed to the next. Thank goodness she has completed the gruelling 4 years and will be taking her As next year.

So for those parents who are basking in the glory of your child doing well at PSLE, don’t hang on to it and start making plans for your child’s JC combi etc. It’s not necessary to jump the gun. It’s a long and tough journey ahead.

Oh my! Edn & Learning shld be an enjoyable journey rather than stress over stress - surely that’s not education?

My child had gone thro 2 years doing IP projects & no sleepless nights, so long as the kids work as a team & teachers guide properly. Every project I looked thro the guidelines, the timelines, etc. It’s all doable. Only thing my advice wld be tt parents cooperate & support the kids - ensure sch holidays adjust holidays to fit their need to complete projects, give them blessings & small find to purchase their resources to get projects going, counsel them to put proj first complete before going for holidays or doing unproductive stuff (hp chats after chats, gadgets gaming, reading novels first leaving proj last, etc).

My kids had never missed a family holiday & they did very well for projects. Theo projects, they’ve bonded very well with & built strong friendships with mates of diff bkgrds & races. We had only to shorten our Dec holiday bcoz os special selection for Sc attachment (nothing to do with IP proj).

The only one case I heard one child had difficulty was coz he was in a highly competitive sport & always going for competitions. The teacher stepped in to help assign him to a team that gave him clear roles that was regularly reported to the cher-i-c. Initially peers were worried he doesn’t hv time to do his part for proj. The cher showed good guidance to ensure that student do his part & nobodybis left w/o a proj team. This shld be the way as educators, to provide a safety net & scaffolding to be inclusive and support learning. Anyway, students in my child’s sch are not allowed to select the same proj mates & they’re expected to work with others they’ve not worked in previous projects. As parents, if we sense any abnormalities, we shld help highlight to teachers/school and not leave our kids struggling till past bedtime. I did that when DS was in P3 and wonder why he panic tt he MUST complete 7 exercises before nextvday & it turned out tt DS was turdy then & I corrected that with him by setting him to usual bedtime & he completes his work next few days till all done before he gets his playtime. Now, he doesn’t leave things last minute & always on top of things & sleeps by 9pm. Lol

We’ve to ensure our kids learn to manage their time well during their teens. The fallout in projects that turned to nightmares cld be due to not starting off early & managing time, teammates not co-operative, etc. At the sight of early problems, students shld be able to seek advises fr teachers-in-charge and not leave difficulties/grudges unspoken & suffer alone. It’s part of team building, character building & ability building.

              Hi Esteema,

your child’s IP school is good, in that they let u rotate project partners around, so u get to work with different personality people.

But some IP schools, the Tr just let the students be independent, form (find) their own project mates. They don’t ensure or make it a point that ought to rotate around, get chance to work with different people. So end up, some students very cliquish, only want to work with those whom they are familiar with, or like to be together with. Eg. Those that go recess daily together, already form clique, of their own. Other people want to join in, they don’t welcome

              E.g.
Behind the scene, in some schools, some parents also network amongst themselves. From the main class chatgroup, the parents form mini chat group, themselves. Naturally, they know who they want their children, to do project with

                Hi Esteema,

Perhaps different schools, different teachers, different experience.

It’s a form of bully with those cliques thingy. Silent exclusivesness that leaves others behind. I believe MOE slowly Training their teachers. Of course doesn’t help when we hv kiasu parents network & model such attitudes to their kids (I hope those ks are not fr our forum here). Here, we hv enlightened parents, we’ve parents who learn fr each other & I certainly hope we build an inclusive community here.

Yes. Child’s school hv a very strong policy against bullying & forming cliques or excluding others is not promoted. I’m thankful the entire sch community incl PSG, helps to enforce positive sharing & help those who are left out or experienced difficulties in studies. I’m taking care of 2 scholars fr Asia region & one feels down bcoz our SG kids are so strong in English. He comes round to my frd who teaches English. Hopefully, he did well enuf to stay on. The other is super strong in both languages. One of the senior girl fr Year 5 helps to share her old Sc books & Pass on to him. I believe if SG schools can be sharing & caring, we shld all progress well together, leaving no one behind. My hope for next generation.

Can anyone share what is the highest Tscore you all have heard so far and from which school?

277 ACS. What about you? What’s the highest you’ve heard so far and from which school?

Anyone else heard other highest scores?
