When my brother & I were younger, my mum got a Sri Lankan maid. She was in her 30s, at that age where she is desperate for a man  ...reading Mills and Boons books and the part which will make you PUKE...don't wear undies!!! My brother (about 10 or 11 then) didn't know about this. I told my mum and she decided to send her back bcos she was worried what might happen.

My kids told me they do not want a maid...bcos the maid gets on my nerves and makes me very irate. Daughter said, 'Mummy, don't get maid bcos they love to talk back.'

I realized that many people who do not have maids, tend to have many misconceptions about maids in Singapore :

              Hi Tamarind,

You are 100% right…we have to pick up the sh!@ if the maid decides not to work, bcos she misses home/children/boyfriend/husband or because she has to cook (like my prev one).

We have to pay maid levy, maid salary (starting pay $350 for no experience), safety course ($65), agent fee, her monthly loan, food and lodging and also to train her. In the meantime, our Ministry of Manpower has a whole lot of policies supporting the FDWs.

                janet_lee,

What is most frustrating is that there are so many people who think that all employers are villains and maids are the victims. There are so many laws protecting the maid, but no laws protecting the employers.

These people really need to be educated about the real situation about maids in Singapore.

Damn 😛 MOM thinks that all employers abuse maids. Did they ever think of us employers ? Did they ever consider us employers at the mercy of these maids ? We are paying so much money to get a maid to help us with kids/household chores or aged parents...instead of helping, maids are causing more problems. They select employers and get brainwashed easily. :x

You are absolutely right tamarind!!! :salute:

But I got a feeling that whoever set all these laws may somehow knew and heard enough horrible stories. It is just that they have to \"favor\" those FDW more as to keep the good ties between countries. To be fair, the serious crimes are also being dealt with seriously. Just to name a few recent casesssssssssss ..... :x
