if a PSLE student Tscore is below 40, if go by normal Moe S1 posting, would have been channelled to Northlight Secondary.


But if parents can afford to send child to International schools like (ACS, SJI, HCI) International, can the child be admitted (enrolled) into above International schools, instead of Northlight ,

since from Sec 1 onwards, it is No longer compulsory for a Singaporean student to study in an Moe local school anymore ?

Err it really depends on the pte/international school and their admission requirements. Some of them do explicitly say a PSLE Tscore of at least 200, I recall. I haven't done my research on all of them.... some of the private schools do take in special needs students.

I understand there might be a very small number of students who go overseas or withdraw for some reasons, but doesn't seem like significant enough to generate a torrent of appeals. Also doesn't seem likely tat the school can deliberately hold back some vacancies n release them after S1 posting exercise.

One reason which no one has suggested, is that the schools are just not full. Eg if a school can take in 390 students, and only 360 people opted for the school in any of their 6 choices,. All 360 got in. So there will be excess of 30. The school has no control over how many students put their school in one of the 6 choices. And after the posting exercise, the students realised that the school they had wanted, acquired a COP that is equal or lower than his PSLE score, so he decided to appeal and got it within a day. And when asked why didnt he put this sch in his 6 choices, it was because he felt his psle score was way below previous year’s COP and didnt want to waste one choice.

Students posted to a sec sch and subsequently go overseas before 1st day of school, would most likely apply for LOA. And if so, the school is obliged to keep the space for him and thus would not be releasing this space to an appeal,student. Unlikely the student going overseas will withdraw unless he is really trying to save the school fees. You would prob want to keep the space at least for a few months in case you cannot get used to the n school overseas? If it is a parent overseas posting, you would even more likely want to apply for LOA than to withdraw because you never know how orgn changes can result in having the parent posted back prematurely.

for the top and popular schools, i doubt whether there can be a situation where not enough students choose the school to result in a \"not full\" status, right?

Hi, has anyone gotten a reply regarding their appeals to schools yet? My daugther submitted hers on the 23rd and still hasnt gotten back a reply. The school we appealed to told us to wait as they don’t know the exact date too and don’t buy her uniform and books yet. But school starts this thursday and our posted school isn’t lending us uniforms. I’m afraid my daughter will stick out like a sore thumb when wearing her primary school uniform on thursday.

Well, you can buy the minimal number first (probably 1 set of uniform, 2 sets of PE attire). If your appeal is successful, you can donate them to the school or to students who want them. Otherwise, you will get to use them.

He has been there during open house and love the school super big compound. He found RI compound cramp as compared to HCI. Tats his so called reason for choosing HCI.

Good enough reason in my opinion!! Haha Whatever that makes the kid happy is more important as after all he is the one who must LOVE the school.
