Yr friends son is wise to choose a JC based on school environmemt he likes. Hes de one studying, not parents.mummy so kiasu\" post_id=\"1927471\" time=\"1565250310\" user_id=\"41813:
One of friends son has gone to NYJC open house. He likes the school environment & location of NYJC. After much consideration, he chooses NJC even though it is very far from his home (Punggol). His parents think NJC is more elite as PM Lee is their old boy. Moreover, he was a a school team debater but NYJC does not have a debate team. He intends to study law in NUS.
Njc Elite? Depends how you think Elitism this thingy.
Dun choose school just based on that. Times changed.
Btw, elite or not, Njc standard has fallen behind Nyjc.
a Elite school is different from a Popular School
Yes. NJC is an Elite school. NYJC is just a Popular school.
Analogy - a Toyota is a popular car but it cannot be compared to a Elite car like a Lexus. -
At the end of the day, an elite school is one which elite student enter and score well and stay as an elite. An A student entering an elite school and leaving as an A student is nothing wrong.
But one should not underestimate the ability of a school to value add to students. Many of the schools that are non-elite have performed remarkably well in bringing a C student to becoming an A student. That value add ability is commendable and maybe something that parents would like to focus on. -
For primary 6 students going to secondary school, 20% reserved for non-affiliated. How about from Sec 4 to JC1? Did MOE designated 20% reserved for non-affiliated pupils ? Please advise if NYJC will only absorb 80% of affiliated students only.

No JC is anywhere close to having 80% affiliated students, not even CJC with affiliation to 15 (!) secondary schools.

BTW, there will be a dialogue session with the principal today at 7-8 pm. You may want to attend it with your son since he is so keen in the school.

Is it possible to apply for arts stream but choose to take science combinations such as BCME?
How is the CLL department in NY & what is the distinction rate? -
