my DD n some classmates are quite passive n only signed up for 1 of the trials. later, when submitting the 5 choices, is the attendance of trial a prerequisite to get selected?
Think it's the signing of the form during the trial that marks the attendance. You can still go attend the trials even though never sign up for it and get the teacher's signatures. They won't reject you for the trial if you show up during the trial dates.

For the sports trials at least, it’s usually quite a big group of students so just find out the dates n venue then go try. If shortlisted or interested then get the teacher’s signatures on their form

Strictly speaking, ya, if just a ordinary member in UG, also can’t acquire or showcase leadership qualities. If applying for SPF overseas scholarships, being part of NPCC could be another advantage.

But say if one is Chess club leader and bring the whole Chess team to the next level, then of cos it speaks well of the student leader, his ability to motivate and lead.

Think best is still prefects and president exco.

I heard Shermaine Ang was not the member of NPCC, she joined English debate club and canoeing in NYGH and HCI. Don’t think UG could be any advantage to applying SPF scholarship.

                    Thanks Chibimaruko and phtthp.

Ahhh, I see, so regardless clubs or the more Xiong UG like NPCC, when it comes to applying for prestigious scholarships, the difference is minimal.

But i read that Shermaine Ang was the CCA Council President plus Vice-Captain of Canoeing, good CCA credentials. Guess one still needs to show excellence / leadership qualities somewhere, can’t just be a member.

This is a good approach. Join a cca which she will enjoy and have fun. It's for the next 4 years and she'll be spending many hours in that activity. No point joining something she has no passion or enthusiasm for in the hopes of getting a leadership position. It's not guaranteed anyway and they can't all be leaders in any cca. If selected to be a leader, then treat it as a bonus item in the resume. In Sec3, there's always an option to apply for the student council if so inclined.

my kid was selected into the maths olym training. just asking the more experienced, does this mean compulsory to participate and represent school in all maths olympaid events? also by accepting the offer, we are excluding ourselves fr science Olympiad’s? I.e can only choose one? can anyone shed some light on this? Usually how big is this class of specially selected maths olympaid kids? thanks
