All CCAs should have leaders?? Really cant cover it all.. i will be happy for now she gets into one of her choice 🤣.. your DH long term planning 👍
Strictly speaking, ya, if just a ordinary member in UG, also can’t acquire or showcase leadership qualities. If applying for SPF overseas scholarships, being part of NPCC could be another advantage.

But say if one is Chess club leader and bring the whole Chess team to the next level, then of cos it speaks well of the student leader, his ability to motivate and lead.

Think best is still prefects and president exco.

I heard Shermaine Ang was not the member of NPCC, she joined English debate club and canoeing in NYGH and HCI. Don’t think UG could be any advantage to applying SPF scholarship.

            Thanks Chibimaruko and phtthp.

Ahhh, I see, so regardless clubs or the more Xiong UG like NPCC, when it comes to applying for prestigious scholarships, the difference is minimal.

But i read that Shermaine Ang was the CCA Council President plus Vice-Captain of Canoeing, good CCA credentials. Guess one still needs to show excellence / leadership qualities somewhere, can’t just be a member.

This is a good approach. Join a cca which she will enjoy and have fun. It's for the next 4 years and she'll be spending many hours in that activity. No point joining something she has no passion or enthusiasm for in the hopes of getting a leadership position. It's not guaranteed anyway and they can't all be leaders in any cca. If selected to be a leader, then treat it as a bonus item in the resume. In Sec3, there's always an option to apply for the student council if so inclined.

my kid was selected into the maths olym training. just asking the more experienced, does this mean compulsory to participate and represent school in all maths olympaid events? also by accepting the offer, we are excluding ourselves fr science Olympiad’s? I.e can only choose one? can anyone shed some light on this? Usually how big is this class of specially selected maths olympaid kids? thanks

The kids are expected to represent school for the Maths Olympiad competitions. I think one of them could be during school holiday period. DD couldn’t make it the last time as we have made our holiday plans. So I guess if you have valid reason, school can’t force you.
Not too sure about Science Olympiad though. But I believe you can check and see if your DD have time to do both. Mine was on the same day as her CCA and have to do it back to back then. They might also have 2 classes.

is the CCA schedule for this year released by the school already? would like to know which day(s) and how many days per week for the various CCAs, such as uniformed groups, performing arts, clubs.

Not sure if sch still posts the cca schedule online? Is there any particular cca you are looking at? Just bear in mind that the schedule is just a guide. My gals who are in PA stay back every day out of their own accord to prepare for their PA items coming up in April ( and this is not even the syf year).

thanks for ur reply. It's juz quite messy now in terms of deciding which audition/trial to sign up for, n eventually which 5 choices to put down for CCA. Just found out recently tat this year there's no more English society and Chinese society, and the school seems to be saying if u didn't attend the audition/trial, the teachers/seniors won't even consider choosing u. Sports n performing arts seem to require 2-3 days per week, while uniformed groups usually only 1 day per week?
