Hi MKS,
Last night dd2 brought out her Chi compo for me to sign asked me not to be mad with her (hmm but I dont consciously remember being mad with her leh)..Then we talked, I asked if she needs tuition? Initially says no then think again told me maybe for Chi, Eng no need..hmm I m here like should I wait for 1 more term leh
Does your school conduct weighted assessments? If not, y'can still wait & see? Can she use dd1's old materials? Otherwise, maybe the teacher will send you some feedback?
This year, we've piloted a Terms1-3 weighted assessment thingie. Mine was complacent for MT, but when marks were deducted for 仿句 (had used an ungrammatical word),she became more serious prepping other papers.
Though weighted assessments, the atmosphere is calm - most files are not sent back; even when they're, not everything is filed yet. Which means, nothing specific to prep except flipping through textbooks, spelling/听写 lists... The bizarre thing, for me, is SC - notes are just a page of mindmap... I wonder then whether marking will become more lenient?...
It's a pity learning journeys are cancelled, but we're looking forward to the resumption of CCAs! Keep safe! -
Skym , my kids cca Still continue not cancelled . Yes it’s a pity LJs , level wide camp or workshop are cancelled. My ds orientation got shorten , amazing race outside in east coast region also gone with the wind , feel abit wasted

Hello MP! Wow - amazing race by VJ/ECP? sounds amazing! Yah, kids were sad - (resident) camps were changed to non-resident, then shortened & then cancelled completely.
For primary level, CCA only commences this week. For the post-primary level, still training 4x a week (at least), but in smaller groups (there're even NDP preps), so...
Fairly depressing start of the term when many fun activities planned had to be aborted... Ah well... -

Keep safe!
hi sky, I m not 100% sure if have WA..I remember reading somewhere probably have maybe low percentage. Your side having WA now ? We dont have..So far, school work not much..Saw her Chi compo really short, like half page. I asked her, if that is for P1/2. Still see many wrong words de.
Usually I fetch dds home late..so they feel tired also. Today I managed to find and old Chi book for compo with hypy, asked dd to read. My side mainly read weekly spelling and non weekly tingxie..I suggestedto dd maybe we shouldbuy another set of text bk so that she can read and learn to write the characters from the book...Sci, on and off I try get dd do some qns..she read Sci like read YS so told her all words are important, take note take note. Yr side Sci notes like mind map ? If my dd, not sure if she know how to read lor.. even dd1 also mentioned the other day, dd2 needs a little bit more time for processing de.. I remember our school was lenient in marking P3 Sci during dd1's time..Math, still haven't got all the multiplication familiarised but better that Jan..
On dd1's materials..mostly cannot use le..coz dd dont do proper filing so those loose papers thrown already. I always think school notes, they will get fresh one comes their time..tuition I thought go for own tuition lor sk never expected to be like now..
Our side CCAs as per normal but trips out from school no more.
MP, your ds missing alot hor for the orientation.. thisvirus is big disruption. -

Cloud Cloud:
Hi CloudCloud, to be fair to all, it often depends on your child's learning style, everyone's expectations, convenience... My research was done a long while ago, which may have become inaccurate, but
My P2 girl is currently attending writing class at Mind Stretcher. They teach writing techniques and actual compo writing is only once a month. They will complete the writing in class and teacher will return the marked compo, usually a week later. Model compo is provided and there is no need to do a second draft.
I was looking through the Writers@Work worksheets and realised that they do a compo almost every week. The 5W1H method is used in the compo discussion. Like Mind Strecher, helping phrases are provided. I like it that they seem to do more compo writing than MS. But my question is do they teach writing techniques like story setting, plot, building story climax? Also, do they complete the compo in class? Are they required to do a second draft?
I am also considering The Write Connection. From the forum discussion, I understand that they do one compo a month. The first draft is completed in class. Students are then required to do a second draft which will be marked by teacher. Do they teach writing techniques? Are helping phrases provided?
For parents who are familiar with the three centres, may I know what made you decide on which centre to select?
1. MS tutors required me to be more hands-on with my child's compo learning.
2. TWC could only open up a class when a minimum number of students signed up, which made me wonder if their tutors are partimers?... However, they said that their weekly curriculum was thematic, & included both a compre piece as well as a compo writing (I'm not sure how time was effectively allocated during the short lesson hours). As for drafts, they said that it depended on the tutors' discretion.
3. W@W wrote a fresh piece of compo each lesson (during class), & required a second draft with every marked piece. Some students found it tedious, while parents feedbacked that there were too many guiding sentences/phrases in the writing process. Model compos - yes. Skills in story setting, plot, building story climax - yes.
Hope this helps. -
I agree. Squeezing in a bit of Me Time does so much good for the soul. You will be recharged and be happier and more productive after that.
