Can I ask.. So usually when we talk about cut off point, it is referring to median?
If you're talking abt cut-off point for entry to the sec sch, we're referring to the lowest score of the students admitted to the sch in a particular year.
DSA students are excluded. Nevertheless, the median still represents the majority of the Sec 1 cohort in the school.coast\" post_id=\"1967037\" time=\"1584169644\" user_id=\"38933:

Thank you very much, Mrkatong, by pointing me to the correct link. Appreciated
It is useful, to know the Median for the entire cohort of a few hundred students in your own Secondary school, as Median represent the Sec 1 cohort level -

I agree with you. We also found the CA to be harder and the grades slide.... perhaps the kids “haven’t warmed up their Engines” it’s after all the beginning of the year only. Sigh.MyPillow\" post_id=\"1966867\" time=\"1584069314\" user_id=\"70594:
phttp, good sharing to encourage the child to ask n not keep quiet.own initiative, to approach his P6 subject class Teacher, asked if he can possibly join in their intensive remedial class, so as to help speed up revision fast in time for PSLE, as well as to clarify any doubts your child has.
Last year, my kid school's Science and Maths Teachers gave remedial lessons for P6 students who need to brush up, and they had benefitted, so much so that on P6 Graduation day itself last year October, saw some student received the \"Most Improvement shown, in individual subject\" award, on award ceremony day. It is very heartening, to see them improve by so much !
Last year, for my kid's class, the Science HOD in her school gave Science remedial lessons, to a small group of students. This small group is not just confined nor limited to her own class, but to the P6 cohort, to whoever had failed Science or border-line risky (dangerous) pass or those scored 60+, during P5 (CA1, SA1, SA2) + during P6 (CA1 + SA1 mid year).
During these remedial lessons,
if students have any questions related to past years' PSLE Open-ended structured qns or Multiple choice qns, can raise them up to Teacher, tell Tr boldly [bravely] what u don't understand, when Tr asked the whole group, \"Do you have any question to clarify, to ask me ?\" Then, Science Tr will go through these questions [which you have raised] inside the remedial class, for every P6 pupil inside the small group, to learn, to benefit. Not just only you yourself benefit, but the whole remedial group can benefit. In other words, help one another inside the group, to pull up your socks
Example,
your child can ask, \"Tr, I dont quite understand this PSLE Science OE qn Year 2015, qn # x, part b.
Tr, dont mind, can go through with us, teach us how to answer, please ? Thank you very much, Tr \"
For Maths,
a few other P6 classes also gave Maths remedial lessons, to certain students.
For Chinese,
my kid's class lao shi said if anyone of you need help to improve writing zuowen, just take some sample PSLE zuowen exam questions from the PSLE booklet : after finished writing zuowen, pass to her and she will mark, review and provide comments. Laoshi can give comments like, \"In your opening first paragraph kan tu zuowen, don't introduce this memorized paragraph here. It doesn't help, won't give u more marks. Instead, you should or can consider from another angle, ... \" Laoshi will advise, how to improve, in the context of the picture compo, given. Likewise, your child can use this same approach too , to seek help from his own class Chinese lao shi.
The P6 students themselves also felt greatly encouraged!
In the end, they all did well in last year's actual PSLE, because improved! Hence, please get your child to approach his or her class Teacher or subject HOD, don't be shy. If need help, just shout for help, and help will be on the way. But if you keep quiet, no one know that u are struggling. Poor thing
Tr (abbreviation used) : Teacher
PSLE is a tiring battle for both 11/12 yo kid and parents .
I started to feel weary too, all subjects need to buck up, P6 CA seem more difficult than P5 SA2 for my kid. Marks slide down, not enought time to study/revise Or too much to study (for Math), Lang Comprehension standard is a much High Jump compared to P5 period.
Any recommendations for science tutoring or how to improve? Thank you ..
Hi Zeal Mummy, perhaps can consider tapping on online science resources? For example, if your child needs help with scoring better for science open-ended questions, you can get some https://studysciencesmart.com/get-free-pdf-5-sure-fire-ways-to-stop-losing-marks/. Still can make huge improvements if your child uses these remaining 6 months well ! :rahrah: -
Hi parents,
As stated in my previous post, I'm looking to start a website or blog on Chinese compos because the section is a killer for some. Attached in this post is a compo that I wrote today for a stimulus that's also captured in the photo. Highlighted are some descriptive phrases (好词佳句). If you like it, do send me some compos/stimulus that your child struggled/could have done better in via email. I'll send back my own compositions with highlighted 好词佳句 (with explanations so as to prevent wrong usage). Hoping to expand on this website idea.

Hi Parents
👩🏫 This is Teacher Sandra. 👩🏫
I understand that some of you would be buying Top Schools Past Year Exam Papers to practice at home with your child. My YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtgcCjv8qXakB2rAJkIt7Mw will focus on step by step solutions for these papers.
I have created a classroom in Google Classroom and will be adding Exam Paper Video Tutorials and other bite-sized tutorials on YouTube so students can view and do their own guided revision in their free time. (P.S. This is absolutely free!)
Objective is for students to attempt the papers on their own, then watch the videos for solutions afterwards.
These videos also serve as a guide for parents to coach their kids.

1) Please download: Google Classroom on AppStore /Playstore
2) Log in with Google account
3) Join Math Nuggets using class code 2ccyyj2

Hi, I believe due to COVID19 many native teachers are having issues returning, some on LOA, major HR issue everywhere. HCL is quite a good school in our industry. If all trainers are well trained and follow system, the person teaching shouldn't :xedfingers: impact much. Is your child disturbed by the teacher change? Are grades compromised? This HR issue don't look like it's going to resolve anytime soon. 6mths to PSLE, not too late to change.
Dear all parents, I am not sure if I am asking the right question at the right place. My boy is taking PSLE this year and he is weak in chinese. At the recommendation of my friends, I enrolled him at HCL Bishan.
Literally every week, he was taught by a different relief teacher. From Jan till now, his class was taught by at least 5 to 6 different teachers and out of sudden in Feb, parents were told the permanent teacher suddenly resigned so the class was assigned another teacher. However every week, it is still different teacher.
I am very worried because this year is PSLE and if I know this is how HCL works, I will not enrol him there. It is horrible and irresponsible management at this tuition centre. How can they treat P6 class in this manner?
Anyone with kids at HCL and also face similar issues?
I feel it is too late now to switch to another tuition centre but if HCL continue to assign different teacher each week, how will the teacher/ centre be able to understand my child weakness and it will not benefit him either.
I really hope if some experts here can provide some advice. Should I engage private home tutor instead? I am really getting so nervous now. Thank you so much. -
:nosebleed: my girl keeps failing her science. What do I do?? Always by few marks. SA1 is coming soon.
