Lawrence Wong just announced that the govt is considering measures against those who choose to travel overseas despite the border control measures. How about those studying overseas? Does it mean they can’t go back to uni overseas until the govt says can go back? Or, if choose to go back to uni overseas then cannot go back until permitted by the Singapore govt?
US and UK universities have all (as far as I've heard) cancelled the summer term, so students won't need to think about going back till Aug-Sep, depending on the university. The govt and the universities will reassess the situation closer to that time. For the moment, they will have to do online classes, and perhaps online/remote exams or assessments. Some universities haven't firmed up the plans yet but will probably do so within the next few weeks. I have heard that at least 1 London college has scrapped exams for 1st-year students this year. But I guess they have to make arrangements for the final-year students to take some kind of exams.

Not sure about universities in other countries.

Thanks! Yes, she got back last week, and still on SHN. She is well but keeping to herself in the spare room.

She actually had a flight booked for June (yes, she booked early!), so she just changed the date to return earlier. She had to pay a hefty change fee though. But it seems that the ticket prices went up a lot for those who booked just before they returned.

We had advised her to return even before her university (slower than others) issued the instruction that international students should go home. But we could see that it was going to happen, and the instruction came the day after she changed her ticket date. Now it seems that she will be here till Sep at least. Hopefully the universities can open again by then.

Not sure how the online classes will go, but she doesn't have many, and the time difference will only be 7 hrs by the time the next term begins. Those from US universities may have to attend classes in the wee hours! She's worried about the exams (because she actually prefers them to non-exam assessments). Oh well, I tell her that when she is my age, she will have lots of stories to tell about \"that COVID-19 year\".
