Hi… Depending on how well the online curriculum is designed (how much efforts designers put into the product, how much educators understand the feasibility of available technology + needs of learners…), home based learning Can work very well.
Taking Moelc’s home based learning via SLS, Google drive, etcetera, as an example… Moelc HBL (so to speak, though no Live broadcast yet) has always been concurrent with classroom teaching, even before the current centre suspensions. I’ve been tracking it the whole time (>1year) alongside my kid’s learning progress. If my child were to just sit in class 3hours a week, he’d not have made it this far, & it’d also have been more difficult for me to plug the gaps. This term, he learns Moelc content completely from HBL, & it has been going superbly well, especially since a lot of time is saved from traveling back & forth (luv it!). So yes, HBL Can be effective - give them some time to iron out the kinks.

I m not sure how HBL will work, for kids at student care, where parents are not beside them.

Our piano tr is still having lessons, not centre based but home (studio) based, but child was too busy with extra so we opt for no exam approach for these 2 years. She did lose a bit of motivation.
If your kids are at higher grade for piano, they can download popular songs or simpler music scores to play for fun. Sight-reading for them should be manageable, especially if they come with audio clip demo for them to listen to.
Or they can play duets to make things more interesting.
Personally I would let my kid use the music instrument playtime as an outlet for de-stressing during this shut-in period. He doesn’t really need external push regarding violin. We listen to other players on YouTube for leisure too.[/quote]

Yup I’ve seen the video. Same sentiments. I had same roll-eyes response when the unilaterally decided replacement e-lesson was scheduled for 9am on a Sunday. My kid is an early riser so probably ok for him. But weekends are my only chance to sleep in (after serving my dues the first 7 years of his life not being able to sleep thru the night). The teacher probably had zero choice over this time slot too. I dunno how the FTWPs did it but we did see most of the other kids log in (some late).
Sky, I agree if the e-platform is good and well-planned, well thought thru, it can be good for supplementing normal lessons. However, one centre is getting a lot of flak for not using a good platform, instead using a chat forum with so many issues like need to manually refresh & scroll down to the bottom of page, like every time u want to know what’s going on. Kids spamming the chat with boliao comments like “ok!” “Noted!” “Hi!” “Yes” “Done!” Teacher was trying her best to give instructions and get the kids to follow her instructions. They were distracted by the chats and mine was clicking here & there when he finished some tasks early and waiting for the others. Even walked off to play Beyblade.
Parents have pressured the management to use video conferencing, or at least some audio type of instructions so the kids don’t need to write answers, type, click refresh & scroll to see notifications. -

Check with the student care staff, are they gonna let the kids share computer, take turns? Will they guide the kids to login & finish the assignments etc?
