SEAB has updated the 2020 examination syllabuses due to COVID-19 situation.

Do note that the PSLE examination format for Maths and Science is still the same (duration, no of questions, ...).

There is a chance that SEAB has not updated the latest info on its website due to the circuit breaker extension but it is better to clarify with your school if the details given by them is different.

Details on the Common Last Topics that have been removed from the 2020 national examinations are found in the 2020 examination syllabuses of the respective examination levels.

PSLE Mathematics
The Common Last Topics for PSLE Mathematics are only the Primary 6 content of the following topics: Speed, Volume, Pie Charts, Solid Figures and Nets. The Primary 6 content of these topics will not be examined in 2020 PSLE Mathematics.

PSLE Science
The Common Last Topic for PSLE Science is Interactions within the Environment.
This topic will not be examined in 2020 PSLE Science.

Yes, this covid-19 has brought us so much headache !

Many people are going through difficult times and covid had disrupted our P6 graduating students so much, in their studies. Those online HBL (Home-based-school) lessons are not that effective, compared to physical classroom \"face-to-face\" lessons in school. It is such a relief, to know that those heavy going content Science topics have been removed, from National exam.

This is possible under T score system cos everyone will be on a curve anyway.

I also think no re set papers

Due to this covid uncertainty, seab may not have time to do so - and if covid still going on with new waves coming in future days , psle exam mayb at later date ... nobody knows ...

Minister mentioned before more lenient markings , so easiest fastest is decrease fr 100% full marks to 95 , 90 etc depends on number of qn affected - so many possibilities
Psle is local , still can be easily controlled.

for O and A-level National exam, SEAB will modify the questions sent over from Cambridge, to suit our Singapore context. SEAB is still in full control, over what questions they want to set.

eg

normally, SEAB will set harder questions, after what Cambridge sent them.
But this year, due to covid, if SEAB prefer to set easier O / A-level questions, also can.

Still another headache I feel is, kids, have to do more deeper review of P3/4/5 topics, as more questions may appear from those topics. Funny thing is, in my DS school, the teacher has almost completed the syllabus. So, our headache now started, as we asked my DS to start revising P3-P5 science topics during May holidays!!

With these 4 heavy and tricky topics gone, this year Science paper content seems easier. Perhaps, many will score A* for Science this year.

SEAB will need to re-set their PSLE Science Paper, to remove testing these 4 topics, if indeed is true

erm, i disagree with \"many will score A* for Science this year\", don't forget, under T-score system, it's still dependent on std deviation. So, A* may not be >91. I hope this statement will not give false hopes to some parents.

IMHO, removing certain topics only make revision easier, it'll not make the papers \"easier\" or \"score better\". Easier or not is relative. Assuming everybody thinks these topics are super tough, removing them just make everybody stand on the same old ground again. Once again, i'd like to remind all PSLE parents, T-score is base on std deviation & not base on if-paper-is-easy-my-kid-will-score-well. If your kid finds the papers easy, so will others, & vice versa.

There's nothing more you can do now. Can only make your kids study hard & not hope for easy papers

I attended their parents talk and enrolled my child for a short hol prog. Yes I had the same thought as u if u are referring to their compo technique which I find it very different (hmmmm...). Dunno if it works though.

For MCQ Section A,
anything can come out under the sun.
This, your child must prepare very well. Per question, out of 4 choices given (A, B, C, D), throw out the most obvious wrong (inappropriate) answer. Eliminate.
Maximum, target not more than 2 MCQ wrong. Otherwise, the star will slip within your grasp. Unable to grasp your star firmly, within your palm. Need to rely (depend) on MCQ, to pull yourself up, in case OE questions set this year are tricky, not easy to answer.

For OE (Open-ended) Section B,
do examine, analyze the trend of past years PSLE Science papers set in detail, see which Topic(s) often appeared.

There are certain topics, that are often asked, as one full OE question, by itself. Normally, \"Adaptations\" often appeared, tweaked a bit here or there, sometimes as either one full question by itself, other times can be combined along with some other topic.

Since this year \"Adaptations\" is gone, means the \"cancelled out\" OE topics, will be substituted (replaced) by other questions. Hence, possible

- that SEAB can set more than 1 question on the same identical popular topic(s), meaning that say 2 OE questions set on the same topic, one can be a tough question, while the second qn can be an \"average\" question in that, many P6 students able to answer, in order to filter out those A* students from normal A students, or

- or SEAB can set a question on a topic that seldom appeared in the past trend, out to take you by surprise. To spot this type of question, go back to past 10 years of PSLE Science papers OE, dig (find) out which question came out many years ago, but in recent years didn't appear at all. It is posssible that it may come out this year.

Example

for last year 2019 Chinese Oral,
this topic on \"Recycling\" (\"huan bao\") came out in the past, several years ago.
But, didn't appear in recent years Oral.

Our helpful Chen laoshi spotted this, told his students during 2019 June holiday programme that is possible to come out. Tr Chen spotted this topic. My child was one of them, who attended his holiday class. What happened ?

In the end, true enough, bingo !
\"huan bao\" really came out, in last year Chinese Oral.
My child clapped her hands in glee inside the exam hall, because Chen laoshi told them during 2019 June holiday preparatory class high chance that \"huan bao\" can come out, and hey presto spot on !
There were 2 group, for Chinese Oral for PSLE.
One group hit this topic.
