SMPS rarely (probably never) ballot for SC. Not many would have applied for PV.

There are many PRs who applied for PV.

Any reason why is the school unpopular, other than the temporary move? I believe the return to original site will be delayed due to the construction disruption during CB

Yes being the oldest girls school in SG with so much history… The PSLE cop isn’t super low either. Why not much hype over this school?

It may not be obvious on a 2D map, but the original site is located high up on a steep hill. There are no bus stops nor MRT station within walking distance. How can the girls get to school other than school bus or daily car chauffeured by parents?

Besides that, there are hardly any HDB flats nearby (other than Tekka, Jalan Besar old flats, with hardly any young families)…there are several small condos but I don’t think many Singaporeans live there…

The psle score won’t be super low because the school original location captures one of the most expensive residential estates in River Valley and Orchard. The parents can afford high enrichment fees. if the average score is not comparatively impressive , it could be the school focuses more on character development. As a Mission school, this is reasonable too. That’s just my guess

Expensive neighbourhood but does the school spell rich kids to you?

I believe the school is good but just curious why people who choose it are like those living in Punggol, SK, out of the way trying to get there?

Smps are more relaxed and parents are pretty chill, only a small handful are kancheong. Parents profile are mixed bag, slightly skew towards private condo than hdb due to location. Most parents choose SMPS because they prefer a more ‘balanced’ school, it is not as competitive as SAP or elite school along Bukit Timah. The school does not glorify on academic achievement or competition. Academic standard wise I think it is slightly above average - English standard should be pretty high and most girls read pretty well for their age but Chinese standard is lower. Maths standard are not high through observation on Maths Olympiad results and schoolwork. The school focuses a lot on character development and my girl enjoys going to school.

Thats good to know, seems like very holistic! Can you share why you decided this is a right choice of school for your girl?
