No, cannot practice in other countries or UK. Both YLL and LKC degrees are for local practices only. Medicine is a protected turf. But in future when he applies for overseas postgrad education or postings, the Imperial connection will be better recognised internationally
Congrats on the double offer! He would have to check if he is able to practice in other countries with LKC degree as graduates of LKC are unable to practice in the UK even with the degree that is jointly given by NTU and Imperial.val894\" post_id=\"1975853\" time=\"1589454199\" user_id=\"185187:

I support his decision.

Is your son going to be disrupted from NS, and if yes, when will Mindef inform? Tks. -

Hi! tick, based on my verification with SAF Medical Institute (Scholarship Dept) during e-open house chat earlier this year, the Executive Officer told me that NUS and NTU Medicine will forward the students information to SAF MINDEF for acceptance of disruption. SAF MINDEF will then notify the respective Soldiers of their disruption approval. Those allowed disruption will be released by 1st July to go for their study. Not all Soldiers are allowed disruption for medicine as it is dependable on what key appointments they hold and the remaining years/months to serve. It is better to call CMPB Nsmen Hotline or email them via the Nsmen portal to double check on the disruption matter to be specific.

For my son, he just started BMT in Apr, and hopefully can be disrupted by July. So far, he only got the note from NTU saying that they will look into it, but no indicative dates. i guess will have to wait till next month then.

Congrats on your son double offers in medicine!
May I ask how he intends to go overseas to train if he has to serve NS + the bond in SG? Will you be breaking the bond for him to go overseas? Because after serving the bond, he will have to continue his post graduate studies 5 years after he graduates from medical school.
Indeed a choice that is tough to make. Just penny for thought for your son. For both LKC and YLL, local practices are important. However, the name of the university doesn’t really matter if you have the experiences in practice for medicine. Ultimately, it is not exactly about the certificate that has the partnership coming forward, what matters is the experiences he is in medicine. The experiences matters will go for applying in specialist areas and it has to be by recommendation from their supervisor.
All the best to your son! -

Hi! Chenies, For NUS or NTU, You can accept or reject the offer by the deadline stated in the notification of offers. Penalty would be imposed for rejection after official acceptance (e.g. Forfeiting of Fees deposited). Both local universities have two windows acceptance dates, May 24 and June 17 catered for different courses being offered.
Hi all
Need advise here. We were told government overseas scholarships will revert to us in June (for political studies offers received fr LSE or UCL or other UK universities). Meanwhile could we accept the NUS or NTU offer by the deadline next week? Without the scholarship we will prefer to stay in Singapore especially with the current pandemic.
We didn't apply for the local scholarships earlier so it's definitely too late now right? She's a girl so no benefit of time like the NS boys.
As your Overseas Government Scholarship outcome will only be known in June, they might clash with the local universities acceptance deadline. Therefore it is advisable to find out from the Government Scholarship Dept on this possible issues and see if they are able to expedite the outcome or request an extension for your acceptance deadline. I am sure they are willing to assist you. -

Hi Desmond
Thank you so much for your kind advice!! You are so helpful. -
Hi need some advise. My dd is in a similar situation as Chenies’ dd. She has secured a place at a UK uni to read law and now pending scholarship outcome in June before deciding to study overseas or locally at LKC. She does have the option with NUS law and would consider it too if manage to secure the scholarship. However, since the scholarship outcome is only in June, she does not wish to risk it and forgo LKC by selecting NUS law before the acceptance due date on 24 May. She would rather study medicine if no scholarship. In any case, the scholarship would not be sponsoring the study of medicine.
My question is after 24 May, should she secure the scholarship, is there any way that she can appeal to read law at NUS?
