Is Duke-NUS pre-MD pathway a good choice to be a doctor? Heard that they focus more on research. Is the MD degree the same as MBBS? Thank you.
Yes, it's a good alternative pathway to be able to study medicine besides NUS YLLsoM and NTU LKCSoM.

Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore’s first US-style graduate-entry medical school, offers innovative Doctor of Medicine (MD), PhD, and MD/PhD programmes with a focus on medical research. The programmes prepare doctors who are not only skilled in patient care, but who are also well equipped to practise in the rapidly changing world of medicine – essentially, physician leaders who are problem solvers committed to improving the health of individuals and communities through research. The Duke-NUS MD degree is jointly awarded by Duke University and NUS, while the PhD degree is awarded by NUS. Duke-Nus do not accept students who already have an MBBS or an MD degree. Doctors with MBBS or MD degrees who wish to pursue a PhD may consider the Duke-NUS PhD programmes such as the Integrated Biology and Medicine. Information on the PhD programmes is available PhD programmes.

The differences between MD and MBBS are often subtle. MD generally focus on treating specific conditions with medication. Doctor, on the other hand, tend to focus on whole-body healing.
A MD degree represents a higher post-graduate degree for specialty training.

Well, all pathways to studying medicine requires passions, curiosities, confidence, able to overcome challenges, patience, love and compassion. A person that cares more for others then himself. A merciful tender loving healing hand for the sick and needy.

you will cry when they move all lessons online...and u wonder what am I paying for?

Not true at all! Definitely there will be physical classes after the situation is over and just so you would wonder, you are paying for quality over quantity education.

My daughter is currently doing her university in Liverpool right now and there is still support rendered to the undergraduate for their classes and other helps. And it is very unfortunate that this Covid19 has robbed some of the chances in further education but there are still prospective students who wants to further their education in overseas for the experiences.

Think about this.[/quote]Trust me on this. I'm sharing what you don't know.

I think for most the choice is clear - go overseas than studying medicine in Singapore. NUS over NTU for wider network and stronger establishment

I beg to differ. Apart from the really prestigious UK or US universities, i think the local medical schools are established enough and well known for the tough selection criteria to be able to call our own when it comes to comparisons. This i say based on personal and friends' experiences.

Although my friend who has 3 children with medical degrees fr UK says that seeking to choose your preferred field of speciality is much easier there. Obviously NUS has too much good competition:)

I would choose ICL . comparing that to LKC , it is e originating program and your child actually grad with imperial degree rather than a tie up.
Opportunities will be different , overall holistic education , significantly more research opp , and London your child will be exposed to a large range of diseases and illnesses. Granted they may not be as high tech or advanced or organised as in singapore , but to have a chance and can afford To study in ICL.
                    Go for it !
Ucl - is also good , highly ranked not only med but I Guess imperial med would also attract more SG in general . So maybe a larger Asian community?
Covid risk will be there , so depends on how comfortable you feel to let your child go ahead . Or u can always stay back and enjoy reduced covid risk .
And also consider what your child wants at end of e day ! But great choices you have there ! Congrats ! But I would have recommended him / her to take ICL 🙂

Absolutely. Why choose a tie-up than the actual degree? And, LKC is way too young plus the risk of ICL withdrawing from the tie-up, like MIT from Duke. Then they’ll say that we still have close collaborations…ya, sure.

Online lessons are only temporary measure. I will choose Cambridge if I have a choice.
