2020 P1 Registration Exercise for 2021 In-take

PHPS always ballots for <1km every year. I don’t know the exact odds, but maybe Davischew has some records?
I recall that PHPS has a very big cohort, nearly 300 student intake per year? Yet still must ballot. The only advantage is probably its delay to single session. So the P1P2s will go to school in the afternoons instead of morning. Good if you have a very late riser.
However I have heard several mums say that their boys not coping well academically at PHPS. I have seen their exam papers, always very tough. Consider whether your boy can survive under this type of pressure. -
Just a suggestion: since u are willing to pay Bukit Timah kind of rental prices, may I suggest you consider instead, a rental place that is <1km of SJI Junior? No need balloting at all, confirmed place.
Your boy can enjoy affiliation to 2 secondary schools (SJI and St Patrick’s), plus a relatively more relaxed academic pace, can walk to school, and you have United Square shopping mall opposite for all your groceries/enrichment needs. Novena MRT within walking distance, if you work in CBD it’s also a straight drive down via Rochor Road. -

I’m not sure how much you want to spend but if you are going to spend, you want something that’s guaranteed. SC < 1km will only get you a chance to ballot in PHPS. If you failed at the ballot, it’s really 赔了夫人又折兵
Yes. Already started the process of rental sourcing for a place in Bukit Timah that <1KM to PHPS and BTPS.
Just wondering how high is the chance getting in PHPS for SC <1KM based on your view ? If the odd too Low, i might well to apply for BTPS for phase 2C under SC >2km using my current address in Hillview and don’t even need to move. Will the latter work too ?
Any opinion or input from all the masters are much appreciated.
Heed zac’s mum suggestion, a school < 1km from SJI is a much better option. -
Probably RL911 still wants to be near hillview area and prefer a mixed school. Some years PHPS have good chance for <1km or no ballot so might worth a try. Rental not so much commitment as buying so probably good to give a shot.

Hi Zac’s Mom , Floopy and Davischew , truly appreciate all your valuable advice and insight. Would definitely re-visit my current option … thanks once again !

Counter POV - stay put, try for St Anthony. Most likely ballot at 1-2km. But at least probably better odds and less stress than PHPS and still get the co ed experiences. U still get a chance to affiliate to SJI or St Pat rather than move to secure SJIJ. Save money for all the enrichment with probably the same outcome in the end.
Hi All,
I stay in Hillview area with my SC eldest boy born in 2014 that going to take part in the P1 registration exercise this year . Only eligible for Phase 2C this year.
The following are the schools nearby to my current place :
Within 1KM:
CHIJ Lady Queen of Peace ( not applicable as mine is a boy )
1-2 KM:
BUkit Panjang PS
BUkit View
Dazhong
Keming
Lian Hua PS
St Anthony PS
Looking at the 1-2 km list , no chance for Keming . May consider St Anthony but not sure the risk. Not familiar with the rest of schools in this list. Appreciate any master can give some advice.
Another thought is to move near Bukit Timah , and bid for Pei Hwa Primary ( most prefer ) and have BTPS as back up in 2CS if failed. Any advise whether this worth the trying ?
Thanks all the master or grand master for any of your advice in advance .
Cheers. -

Keming - likely balloting within 1km - seem to be around 2 applicants to 1 spot

St anthony - it ranges from 1-2km ballot (2019,2017,2016) and within 1km ballot (2018). I tend to think 2018 numbers seems more likely for this year. around 86-87 applicants for 2018 and 2019 for st anthony. worst odds since 2010 to 2019 is 1.4 applicants to 1 spot within 1km. Odds for 1-2km folks, whenever there is 1-2km balloting, is harder to detect unless you have absolute breakdown.
Pei hwa odds was around 2.2 applicants to 1 spot for 2018 and 2019. There was a cut in the intake last year so competition for spot is as fierce as 2018. Sometimes it has some surprise results like 2016 - 1-2km ballot and 2015 - more than 2km ballot. I am not sure if \"moving close but knowing you will be in for likely balloting\" is something within your risk profile.
BTPS as backup works either way - moving or not moving. with the limit of PRs in the school implemented this year, more spots could be for SCs.
Moving or not moving will depend on how you rank the sch and will your risk profile change to your preference in schools. When moving is in your mind, there are so many schs to choose actually, but more choices to choose means bad for your mental health.
All the best. -
anyone has feedbacks on these schools located in pasir ris?
1. Causarina (<1km)
2. Elias Park (1-2km)
3. Meridian
4. ParkView
5. Tampines North (1-2km)
Need 2 backup options for my DD(SC) applying P2CS. Will be trying Pasir Ris primary under P2C.
Ideally would like to go Causarina, but it has been merged with Loyang Primary. Some of the years need ballot at P2CS and some of the years no slots left at P2C.
Meridian/ParkView - always have slots left @ P2CS
Thanks -

If your goal is for your son to get in to SJI, then you may want to look at the PSLE thread or SJI thread instead. Based on my knowledge from colleagues whose sons are in SJI, or missed going to SJI after PSLE at SJI Jnr, the percentage of SJI Jnr students who made the affiliated cut off for SJI is less than 30% each year. The affiliated cut off for past years’ SJI Jnr students and other affiliated La-Salle schools is 238 or 235 (I can’t remember very well but it is one of the two). -

The lasalle schools - SJIJ, SAPS, DLS, STS - feed into SJI or St. Pat, so even with affiliation boys need to work at it. Getting in or not getting into SJI is just one part of it. SJI needs to be seen together with St Pats.
