Tuition centers should not force parents to accept digital learning at full fees.

Which centre still charging full fee?
Anyway, just my opinion. I have printer at home, I don’t mind printing even though money is indeed tight for my family right now. I am thinking of whoever is that pitiful staff who “needs” to report to work at the tuition center, just to print out stacks and stacks of worksheets to mail out. When govt tells us all to WFH unless absolutely necessary. Is printing documents for customers really essential that you need to risk catching Covid when commuting to work? :? -

Hi, same here. They didn’t conduct any lessons when covid breaker was announced in mar/April. I requested for refund but there brushed me that it’s govt decision online tuition to be closed.
Jiang Education is the worse...

There were no personal calls made to me from Jiang Tuition Center, since late March 2020 when the government announced that enrichment centers had to be closed. My girl was a P6 student attending the session in Jiang Center. It is the worst choice that I had made for my kid to enrol her into the center. There was no call from the teacher to advise me what would be offered alternatively during the period that the center was closed. In fact, I was alerted subsequently via my sons’ teachers from Jiang Center, that there would be YouTube sessions being recorded for students to view. The YouTube sessions are for public viewing. I felt so cheated to pay for sessions that anyone could view. In fact, the videos are damn weird, featuring the teacher reading out passages to the screen. On 2nd May 2020, the P6 teacher finally got me via WhatsApp and rudely responded in the WhatsApp that I had finally responded to her message; and asked if I still wanted to know what were the arrangements for Jiang Tuition Centre? First they didn’t try to contact me, and dated to blatantly lie that they have been trying to call me. I went to check my call log, it didn’t register any missed call from Jiang Center. I called her and she kept rejecting my calls and said she was busy. Next they dare to ask if I would be interested to know about their arrangements during COVID-19 in May 2020 via WhatsApp. Didn’t I pay for service till end of May 2020? Subsequently, she sent me a PDF file to highlight there would be a ZOOM session on 5th May 2020, Tuesday. It was not clear when is the last session of such ZOOM session. When my girl went in on 19th May (Tuesday), she said the last ZOOM session was on 18th May 2020 (Monday). This was not told to me at all. When I asked if she could mail the books which my gal did not collect when the center was closed, she said got to wait till end of May 2020 or later. The lessons would have been over, what is the point of giving me back my materials which I had paid for after everything? When I asked her to mark a composition which I asked my girl to do for lesson 14, she said got to wait. I sent her the compo 3 times in email to remind her and 1 time via WhatsApp. Her response to my request for the marking is either NIL or asked me to wait.
She is the next in charge after the owner. She is taking charge of P6 cohort. If a teacher doesn’t listen and care about a student’s learning progress, how does she call herself a teacher? If she is the next in charge, her way of handling is a model to all other teachers in the same center. Any parent knows if there is any official channel to feedback to MOE? The center is mercenary!
They provided YouTube videos which not interactive and subsequently provided zoom classes for 1-0.5 hours just to check if students have queries. Quite disappointed.
I didn’t sign for the next term. -

Not sure what u mean by online learning platform. The kids have to log in to a learning portal with their individual login + password, inside it’s a bit like SLS with all the subjects separately.
Hi

Inside each subject there is text discussion thread for the teacher to remind them what homework to do etc & kids can reply/upload hw there if they wish. Or can email/WhatsApp to the teacher if teacher willing to give number.
Video conferencing has moved to Zoom but password protected. Teachers use screen share/annotate function during the lesson, so u don’t actually need to print the notes if u don’t want. Can screenshot it for your own reference. -
Thanks
Do kids really able to benefit from online tuition? I got a bad experience from jiang edu. -
I won’t say it’s fully beneficial compared to a F2F lesson. Online platform has limited opportunities for interaction.
Those kids who are very self-disciplined learners (usually secondary school level onwards), they can learn easily from webinar-style teaching (lecture-style, followed by short Q&A time). Teacher assumes the kid is interested enough to pay attention.
For primary school level, the teacher needs to put in a LOT of effort to welcome interaction & feedback, to make sure that ALL the kids are really there, really listening, really understanding. Otherwise the money that parents pay is literally down the drain…
Even in school Zoom meetings, I notice that the better teachers will call each kid by name to answer specific questions, not permitting any one of them to slack or hide somewhere or toggle to another window to play computer games. -

Still have. Just that when others do not mention, we are not aware. Perhaps the bigger players are the ones who will bother to provide the extra touch. Smaller ones couldn’t be bothered.

I can’t remember the name of the tuition centre that my colleague mentioned. Vividly remember that she said the centre specialises in Math and Science tuition only, very popular among IP and JC students because owner/ teachers were previously teaching in a popular IP school. -

Yes, there are def still centers charging full fees. Even though I know only a handful, there are so many tuition centers in Singapore, surely there are more than this handful that I know, that are still charging full fees.
