My child has a CO from NYGH and WL from RGS. Parents’ preference is RGS (ease of logistics among other reasons), but child prefers NYGH, but when we discussed with her why is that so, she cannot give any specific reason, more like based on gut feel only.

Maybe only the SAP school environment is the familiar part which is a pull reason for her.

Should we just cave in to her ‘gut feel’, and not try to convince her otherwise anymore?
The promotional academic curriculum criteria in NYGH (Y2 year-end to end of Y4), is more demanding, more stringent than that in RGS. You can read these 2 schools thread, where existing parents in the school discussed about promotional criteria aspects.

      Perhaps ask your daughter,
which Talent development programme does she feel is more suitable or more comfortable in for herself, in the next 6 years ahead, until she finish A-level in Year 2025 ?
Is it that of ( NYGH or RGS ) ? What interests does she have ?

Which one does your daughter think she will thrive better in ?

In terms of going school daily (Mon to Fri),
which school more convenient for her ?

Someone made a good point about the promotional criteria. In nygh, other than in Sec 1, to promote to sec 2 and 3 means scoring msg of 4 and below (average B4). And to hci=average B3. Not an easy feat as I have seen girls who couldn’t meet the promotional criteria or who have to retain and appeal doesn’t work too. These girls probably if chosen another IP school, might have an “easier” journey…I don’t know. I am not sure if the two schools exam papers are comparable but the higher bars seem to be a deterrent to me as I think about it…

Promotion from sec 1 to sec 2 is just a pass for nygh. This is the same as rgs.

Dear parents. I often hear that by the time the girls graduate from RGS they will become outspoken and confident. How about for NYGH? Does the school emphasise this aspect of their development? Thanks for advice.

If your girl has offer both from RGS and NYGH, which will you choose ?
There is a difference, in Upper Secondary, between how they run their IP (RGS vs. NYGH)

                      Hi,

Both schools are equally good and the best girl schools (where most top PSLE students are) in Singapore. Coincidentally, 2021 president scholars are 2 girls each from each of these schools. 1 is from NYGH who went on to HCI, the other is from RGS who went on to RI for A level. Congrats to these 2 newly minted president scholars.
