Your friend is, unfortunately, right. Phase 2C < 1km is guaranteed at a chance to ballot only. Your odds for balloting can be anything between 2 to 3 applicants for 1 vacancy. IMHO, unless you are already in Phase 2B where you could have 2 bites at the cherry, buying a house for a chance to ballot is crazy. If you buy the flat because you like the place, and getting into ATS is a bonus, then not so bad lah.

At this point, the door to Phase 2B is also closed. The only way to secure a place for SG50 baby is to marry an alumni (Phase 2A1 / 2A2). In other words, that’s pretty much nothing you can do other than hope for the best (and identify a backup for Phase 2CS). -
Are there any parents of students in ATS that can enlighten me on the work/pressure load of the school? Example spelling, ting Xie, amount of homework etc.
I heard that in some SAP schools, instructions or announcements to parents are in Chinese?
Now that P1 registration is nearing, wondering whether we shd consider ATS as we r under 1km. The other option is Amk primary which has plenty of seats. But the key consideration is whether the SAP environment in Aitong is suitable. Really appreciate any sharing. Thanks! -
asking on behalf a friend, less than 1 km to Ai Tong (2B) whats the history of ballot like?

because
balloting always occured for SC staying less than 1 km from Ai Tong, under Phase 2C (open to public) -

thanks for the reply.. wow that's very competitive. I thought will still have chance for SC under 2km after the SC under 1km have taken their places.

Hi all,
Would like to check if the intake size for ATS has reduced since 2019
I saw it was 330 in the past but 260 slots from Phase 1 (I assume another 20 + 20 for Phase 2b/2c, so total 300).
There seems to be an increasing trend for Phase 1 and Phase 2A1 even, and this year is the 1st time that 2A2 is balloting?
My daughter is a SG50 baby and registering next year.
We are alumni status but it seems there could be a chance that 2A1 may ballot next yr, esp given SG50 babies > dragon yr.
Contemplating shifting near the school in case there is balloting (home prices ard ATS is crazy!)
Any kind thoughts or comments? -

Yes, it's possible that balloting for Phase 2A1 will happen one day... and \"SG50\" year may be that day (or it may not).
However, the good news is you don't really have to shift to within 1km of the school; within 2 km should be good enough (AMK has slightly more reasonable prices). Compared to most schools, ATS has a slightly smaller catchment area within 1km due to:
1. Two huge reservoirs and 1 big park
2. High concentration of low density housing within 1km
3. Matured estates within 1km (and very few new, big scale developments)
Therefore, I think balloting within < 1km and even < 2km is most likely not going to happen.
Furthermore, there are several reasons preventing most people to shift to within 1km:
1. HDB prices in Bishan / Thomson / Upper Thomson =
2. Private apartment / landed prices in Bishan / Thomson / Upper Thomson = :scared:
3. GCB prices in Windsor Park = :yikes:
