I am so stressed that I am afraid my boy couldnt get into HPPS. The data reflected on MOE website stated 105 vacancies for Phase 2A1 and applicants 81 therefore do u think for Phase 2A2 balloting is required?

Judging by the way the info is presented on the MOE website (ie exactly the same as last year), I think we can conclude that we will still be seeing no breakdown of how many applicants per each distance category in 2020.

People in phase 2B, 2C, 2CS...be prepared for zero breakdown and no “live” updates at all.

I think they would still let those who (registered) fall outside the distance to be balloted to make an alternative choice in phase 2B/2C. Keeping silent would mean a wasted choice as they would not be eligible for their school of choice even if they registered

Nope. I think only a couple of schools bothered to notify the parents in the past years. The vast majority do NOT inform the parents even if they have zero chance for their distance category. I know plenty of people (forummers and relatives/friends) who lost their chance due to this. Plus their own lack of knowledge about the application process.

It’s high chance you need to ballot for >2km in 2A2. Only can hope for the best.

The below mentioned schools has 2019 applicants more than the current vacancies.

RULANG PRIMARY SCHOOL
AI TONG SCHOOL
TEMASEK PRIMARY SCHOOL
RED SWASTIKA SCHOOL
PEI CHUN PUBLIC SCHOOL
PRINCESS ELIZABETH PRIMARY SCHOOL
GONGSHANG PRIMARY SCHOOL
CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
RADIN MAS PRIMARY SCHOOL
SOUTH VIEW PRIMARY SCHOOL
NANYANG PRIMARY SCHOOL
ST. HILDA'S PRIMARY SCHOOL
YU NENG PRIMARY SCHOOL
FAIRFIELD METHODIST SCHOOL (PRIMARY)
RIVERSIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL

2018 applicants more than current vacancies
JURONG PRIMARY SCHOOL

Below are those with buffer less than 15
HENRY PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL
METHODIST GIRLS' SCHOOL (PRIMARY)
SHUQUN PRIMARY SCHOOL
FRONTIER PRIMARY SCHOOL
SINGAPORE CHINESE GIRLS' PRIMARY SCHOOL
WESTWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL
RIVER VALLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL
ANGLO-CHINESE SCHOOL (PRIMARY)
ANGLO-CHINESE SCHOOL (JUNIOR)
TAO NAN SCHOOL

The higher the school on the list, the more probable that balloting needed for 2A2

If u are selling your flat now for urgent reasons, then to fulfill the 30 month requirement, you either rent (or buy) within the same distance category. If u have already committed to buy somewhere that is outside the distance category, either rent <1km to complete the 30 months, or your child will be transferred out of the school (like MOE’s rules state).
If already committed to buy a new place, should be able to use the new address to ballot for 2C rite? But must show proof of purchase etc.

Hi all,

I am a newbie in this forum. Can I checked if I am old student of HPPS and currently staying opposite NHPS which is definitely lesser than 1km.

Which options do you personally think you would tried for? Because at Phase 2A1 HPPS undergo balloting and even I enter into their Alumni doesn’t guarantee me a place in the sch. And NHPS is very near to me but I know is not easy to get a place because staying 1km ballot as well. I am so vexed.

Do you guys mind to share your opinions? TIA.
:thankyou:

2A1 and 2C are completely different phases taking place at different times...I don’t see much dilemma actually.

Just apply to HPPS at 2A1 and take a chance lor. If balloting for your distance then so be it. If selected, woohoo! If not selected, just continue to 2C.

NHPS <1km confirm will ballot. Just go for the balloting.

Your dilemma should actually be: which backup school should u choose for 2C(S)? Take the time to evaluate properly and ask around.

If only you had act upon her suggestion, pay up the alumni fees and go for Phase 2A1, you would have avoided a lot of the headache now 🤷

Schools that can spare 1 or 2 admin to assist and look into the application can definitely call out and notify parents. However, if they are overwhelmed with work, or don't have a dedicated personnel to call (also takes time), then obviously they won't be able to inform.

With application being online this year, there's a question on how much visibility that the admin / admin manager has. If it's not easy to extract the information on distance, then it won't be possible to notify parents in time. Furthermore, even if it's possible to check, it's unlikely that they will be running the query all the time. If they do so only at 2 or 3 hours interval, it's going to be a high risk for those planning to make an alternative choice.
