Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

P1 next year lah, so registering this year.
Go for Alexandra. It was raved about when it first started. School used “7 habits of highly effective people” (Adapted for kids) as a teaching tool / school philosophy.
Dunno about now or whether the first PSLE batch has shown good results yet, but yeah, the school is just opposite & no bad reviews, just go for it (balloting).
Think about your 2CS school just in case. -

Nonetheless, answer is the same:
None of the two is safe option but with ALPS, at least there’s a chance to ballot.
Therefore, go for ALPS. And plan for Phase 2CS -
Hi,
my eldest son is born in 2016 and hence would be up for p1 registration in year2022. I will be shifting to serangoon end of 2021 and would like to have some feedback on rosyth, zhonghua pri and xinmin primary? My first choice is Rosyth however i’m unable to apply for PV as i do not reside there right now hence chances of me trying rosyth for phrase 2c is more likely but would like to know about other school around the area so i can weigh out other options in case. Thank you so much. -

I know boys from Rosyth, Zhonghua & Xinmin Primary, they are all happy & well-adjusted boys who enjoy & like their school and friends made in school.

Not sure what else you’re looking for. I haven’t heard complaints from my friends whose kids are in neighborhood schools, neither have I heard the Rosyth parents raving about their school.
Sometimes I wonder is it us parents who have preconceived notions of the various schools. -

The way this forum serves parents are usually for those gaming for the next phase. P1, PSLE, DSA, etc etc
Parents usually rave only because their schools are still left standing after they have long left, which leaves those without long traditions, history and an active alumni association under the radar.
2A1 and 2A2 are good indicators of how attractive a school really is.. -

Hi everyone, my daughter is born 2014 and PR, we live in Ocean Park (siglap). We were thinking for Opera Estate (1-2km) but with the cap in PR it will be very difficult. Our other options are a) Haig Girl (1-2 km): I heard holistic approach and relaxed but school bus pick up will be quite early (6:40) or b) Ngee Ann (0-1km): few of my daughter friends from kindy are going there but I heard is quite academic and competitve (for PR standard maybe not for local
) .
So what you recommend (assuming we have a good chance for both - which is yet to be confirmed): would you go to a super near school (walking distance) where your kiddo have friends but might me stressful or a more far but more relaxed? I do not want CHIJ Convent school because I am jewish and I want to avoid a religious school (even if I know that there are many people from different religion but I feel odd that my daughter will have do do something different all the time). Any wise advice? What do you think of both schools? Also as PR what would be my chance for 2C in both? -

You can take a look at the latest statistic

Maybe call the school to ask what is the general probability for PR within 1km
Because of the PR status.. it is harder to get a slot in the more well known schools.
As a parent..I really want my kids to go to school that is walking distance.
If you drive or want your kids to take a school bus..I guess even Haig girls is manageable. We are not talking about 10km away 😉
Depends on your kids personalities too. I would choose a more competitive school if my kids shows strong academic inclination..so that he does not get too bored in school. But if my kid is more chill..then a more relaxing environment will be better. Example if a kid cannot perform under stress...then I will choose a more relaxed school so he has time to explore his other talents
