Yup, tomorrow i will try the drop at gate 2 along amk 2, unless rain then i will consider gate 3 (bear with the long queue). For such a huge school, i m surprised the start time for primary n secondary is not staggered

Maybe you should also try asking at the DSA 2020 topic. ๐Ÿ˜„

St Nick is a dual track school

                  1) IP track

ALL IP students studying inside CHIJ St nick
NO need to take any O-level (Standard Chinese, bu-hua), in Year 3.
IP students need only sit for O-level (Higher Chinese, gao-hua), in Year 4.

                  2) but O-level track, different

All HCL students, from Sec 1 Term 1 onwards

                  a) compulsory to sit for O-level (Standard Chinese, bu-hua), in Sec 3 first

                  And thereafter,

                  b) regardless of
whatever your O-level (Standard Chinese, bu-hua) achievement grade outcome (obtained) is,
                  ranging from (A1, A2, B3, B4, C5 or C6),

NO discriimination whatsoever, on your grade

All HCL students, will proceed to take O-level (Higher Chinese, gao-hua) the following year, in Sec 4

                    Hi Phtthp

Would you know if EJC requires IP students to obtain a certain minimum grade for HCL before they are allowed to "drop" Chinese in Year 5?

                    Thanks.

                      Hi doodbug,

There is no need for your daughter to take H1 Chinese, if she obtain D7 or better for her O Level Higher Chinese, at end of Year 4. She would have already fulfilled the entry requirements, into local university.

                      However,
if your daughter would like to improve on her overall Rank points for promotion and A Levels, she is encouraged to take H1 (Chinese) in Eunoia JC (Year 5), to aim for a better grade, provided she is able to handle (balance) rest of her other core H2 A-level subjects as well

                      because

taking up H1 (Chinese) in a Junior College,
require at least studying minimum, 100 hours, besides revision time aside

Thank you phtthp! okay so there will be different rules for my son and daughter. Am glad EJC doesnโ€™t make it compulsory to take Year 5 Chinese so long as one clears the D7 hurdle which is what the local universities require.
